Yesterday There was a pink slip on the mailbox when I got home. Having just talked with Snakewood3 about a kudu hide he was hoping to work with, he mentioned it was on it way back to me from Texas. So my thoughts were that the hide had arrived. Imagine my surprise when I walked into the post office today and the clerk handed me this box.

oh man!!! ya cant leave us hangin... especially when it involves a kwyk styk!!!
gaff
How rude. That man don't know how to treat decent folk. Maybe it's just an ugly bow and he is embarrassed to show it to anyone. Go figure. :banghead: :jumper:
Yeah Bill,LOL,
He probably just found the box laying around somewhere, such a tease.
Cold-blooded...
Come on already
Anyboby can find an old box and stick a tag on it!
Orderd one in March, need a pic bad!
This is a hoax thread. There isn't a bow in that box!
This aint right
TTT, I want to see this one!
hey give me a brake I was hanging around with Mr. Lamb back at the beginning of the year and he rubbed off on me...
Here goes. I was tagging a long on the Solana Ranch Trad Gang hunt this past winter toting my video camera and while watching the gang getting in some pre hunt practice I noticed this really sweet looking bow being shot by none other than Guru. Well after admiring this bow for the entire week I just couldn't get it out of my head.
Not only was this bow an eye catcher it was whisper quiet and other than the fact it was a lefty I just couldn't stop thinking about it. So after mulling over it for a few weeks (more like a few seconds) I contacted Curt and he filled me in on Jack Kempf and his Kwyk Styk bows.
Along about Feb. I decided I was ready for a new bow and I gave Jack a call. Curt had told me what a great man Jack was, but after talking with Jack on the phone for close to an hour I realized he was the real deal. A week later I had one of Jack's catalogs arrive at the house. I thumbed though it several times and decided to just give Jack a call and get his opinion.
All of my bows up till now were built using the darker woods so I really wanted something different. Jack made several suggestions and we agreed to go with curly maple. Not wanting the bow to be entirely light colored we decided to add black dymond wood flairs and wedges. We talked close to an hour about woods and what not and by the time we hung up the phone I felt like I had known Jack all my life.
The following day a check was in the mail with my order form. A little over a week later Jack called and said he had received my deposit and that he was going to get started on my bow very soon and that I should have it in about 6 months. The waiting began.
After hearing about the loss of Jack's daughter back at the beginning of the summer I figured Jack's bow building would be put on the back burner and for good reason. I just couldn't stop thinking about how generous he had been with his time so I decided to give him a call to express my heartfelt sorrow for his loss. He said that he had in fact taken a brake from bow building and he was behind on his orders. I told him to take as long as he needed and that if he just couldn't get back to building any time soon I totally understood. We talked for little while about everything other than bows and before we hung up he said he would most likely have my bow ready by hunting season.
Jack kept his word and yesterday this is what arrived!

the stone point used for the inlay was knapped by a good friend of mine Steve Quam.
Of course not every bow shoots great for everyone and since Curt's bow was a lefty I didn't have the opportunity to shoot one of Jack's Kwyk Styk's. I just went with my gut and decided to take a chance that I would be able to shoot this bow. All I can say is that I am sooooooo glad I took the chance. This bow will solid launch an arrow, is so smooth and quiet already and I have not even started the tuning process. I think I may have a new go to bow.... :jumper:

I finally got a chance to string it up and loose a few arrows. This was the first 3 shot group from 15 yards. A tad bit high, but grouping well already.

What tips are those on the limbs?
Very cool Rob!! Beautiful bow and Jack sounds like a very nice Gentleman. Curt thinks a lot of him...
Easy Mr. Jackson....your bow is in progress...LOL
Joe,I feel like a kid at X-mas...LOL
We can all thank Joe Skipp for finding Jack, he's the guy that helped me out back in '97 when I got my first KS!!!
I'm glad you like it Rob, it's a fine looking bow!
Hard to buy a bow on "just someone's opinion"...but I knew if you bought one, you'd luv it. They are everything a great hunting bow should be....fast, easy to tune, very easy to shoot, and quiet!
My two 56" bows are as smooth as any 62" bow I've ever drawn.
Jack is "The Man" :notworthy:
Thanks Joe!
Curt after talking with you and seeing what others had to say about Jack's bows i felt pretty good about having him build one for me, but after talking to him it was no question. I really hope I get the opportunity to meet him in person some day.

damn....now I'm envious again (even though I've had a widow for about a month now)!
sharp looking bow.
thats on my lest right after hitting the lottery :)
