Title: trad string life
Post by: Cowboy Al on August 26, 2009, 09:58:00 PM
I shoot a robertson mystic 62" longbow. I've been shooting this current string for 6-7 months, I shoot frequently (at least 5 time/week). The string is in decent shape, I wax at least 1/week, my question is should I be concerned about string creep/stretch? Should I be changing the string out at set intervals? I have a caribou hunt coming up in 2 weeks and want to have time to break in a new string if I needed to. Your comments are welcome.

I think some guys said a while back it is a good idea to change it every year.

If your current string/bow combo is putting your arrows where you are looking then stay with it. But, like Big Riser said have at least one string that is "tuned" (i.e. ready to put on with your next shot) to take with you on your hunt.

Best of luck to you.

Yes  sir all trad hunters should have a spare string even for hunts close to home as cutting a string is very easy and if you have a shot in and tuned string all you have to do is put it on and you are back in the game Big Riser and Saltydog are right on the Money Also 7  month on the bow is not that long but it is probably time for a new string anyways try a 8 or 10 strand dynaflight 97    :wavey:
