Tell us about it or show us your bow or stave.
I finally finished up my first one.I have messed around with it for over a year and called it a bow last week. Sorry no pictures yet.
I started this bow earlier this year at O-jam, can't wait for our season opener Sept 15!!!

I made one early this year but it blew on me one night when, after too much artificial stimuli, I inadvertently pulled it an inch to far. I will hunt with last years yew self bow this year and hope to make another soon to hunt with.
Ductape, that is one sweet tiller on what I would say had to be TOUGH!! Nice Snakey Osage!
Can you give us some specs?
Joe, good to see on here Bro. Would love to take another trip to Southpoint this fall.
If I take one with the '59 Griz, I'll switch to a BBO. Then third choice would be a Hophornbeam self bow.
Gonna make some meat with the long bow and then swich up to my osage self bow and cane arrows if i ever get them done.
That is one sweet looking osage bow!
Ken, my computer bit the dirt and I just got another one and I'm back.
I've been reducing my stave stock down to ruff shapes of bows. Found bugs in some so I'm ripping them down to size al at once 10 up and about 30 to go.
Hi Pat its been awhile huh?
Thanks for the responses!
I have my red oak bow I made last year and I'll start out with that one. I am hoping to build another one this year. I'm still working on building my bow/arrow shop. The bow in my Avatar is my red oak bow.
Got one that I have been working on since June. but its not looking good at being done for the early hunt. Might have it done by November??? :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
Hey Joe, here is my this year hunting bow...a takedown! d;^)

nice looking T/D Pat
Gezz Pat,,, It took me a minute on that one! I had to look at it a minute before realizing what I was looking at.
Hope no one was hurt. Both limbs at the same time? I've never seen that happen :(
Dang Pat. :( That was a cool paint job on that bow.
I made one at O'Sulivans bow making class, Osage 64 inch nock to nock and pulls about 50 pounds at 26 inches. It is a sweetheart. My son made one almost exactly alike and we call them Tweetle dee and Tweetle dum because they look like twins.
I'm bringing "Shania" out of retirement. She's always been persnickety about arrow spine, and I had last used her two years back. I fletched up some fir shafts that I bought from Joe St. Charles last year, and they fly great out of her, so I'll be using her for elk and deer this year. She's a 64", 65lb osage selfbow with a pair of copperheads....a real beauty.
Im currently cutting a bunch of staves down to rough shape, not sure Ill have time to do much with them at this point. I built a heat box and plan to do just a bit of experimenting with that to see if I can manage to get some good results force drying a few staves. Ill likely just use the Yew ALB I made last year, its got one buck to its credit already so I know its got the right stuff to do the job.
Joe, I've never had an osage do that either and this one had a deer rawhide backing under the tiger stripes. No one was hurt but it scared the heck out of my choc lab. After all these years of building wood bows you would think In would know better than to over draw a wood bow. I'm blaming Evan Williams for causing this! d;^)
The decoration on the back is actually animal print tissue paper my wife found in one of her art catalogs. I have leopard spots and zebra too.
Sal, I've always wanted a take down but wanted a bit more control over the disassembly!
I have an osage self bow and a backed hickory that I want to ass a diamondback skni to in progress - but not much time for my own bow trying to keep up with orders for bows and arrows from others. I may still have to hunt with my old longbow and/or Browning Explorer II (both circa 1970) this year again
I guess that is why a mechanics car never seems to run right???
May get some pics of work in prgress if I can figure out how to post digi pics to this and other forums.
I am taking some web site classes at the local community college to help overcome my 'dinosaur status' in the cyber world.
I have a new one to hunt with and made one for my bud in Wyoming like it. Antelope sinew and rawhide backed osage.

Magnificent work, Mike!
Thanks guys. My snakey osage is 67" 60# @ 28" shoots a 550 grn arra @ 153 fps. My first selfbow definentaly not my last!!!!!!
Pat that is why you athletes should stay away from steroids!
I am assuming that is the artificial stimuli you are talking about :-)
JOE WEED! :wavey:
Nice job Mike, Ed Scott would be proud. Good luck in Wyoming.
Thanks guys, Dano I wish my shop looked as good as yours! I will be using that bow the 9th of next month for a couple of weeks in Wy. I will let you know how it went.
