Title: KME Sharpener = HUGE Thumbs Up!
Post by: ErikT on August 26, 2009, 04:10:00 PM
I just got a KME knife sharpening kit.  First, I am amazed at the quality of this tool.  It is in another league altogther when compared to other rod-type sharpeners.  The design and quality of these tools are simply awesome.

After emailing and talking with Ron on the phone, I decided to get the knife sharpener model to sharpen BROADHEADS and bh's on the shaft   Let me tell you, you will NEVER find more friendly and helpful service anywhere.  Ron took a TON of time to talk with me on the phone and discuss bh sharpening techniques.  He really knows his stuff.  I ended up getting another stone from Ron and will proably end up with his BH sharpener model soon.

Thanks Ron!

Ditto for me! I am using the KNIFE sharpener to put 25 degree single edges on the No Mercy's.  Takes all the guess work out.

I have the broadhead sharpener and use it on Norton Japanese water stones from coarse to some really fine grit, the whole set up rocks and after finishing on 6000 grit my heads are frightening.

Just got a new batch of Grizzlys yesterday and put one on my KME broadhead sharpener. I have a hint for you guys. Set the bevel with a corse 6" grinding wheel (Flat side of course). Took about 2 min to reset the bevel. Then went to a medium wheel then diamond stone ended up with 6000 grit water stone.

It still isn't shaving sharp but it is sharper than I could have got it  before. Not sure why it won't shave. I removed the burr after finishing up with 6000 grit.

Ron gets a big thumbs up from me also. Extremely helpful on the phone and email. I already have the broadhead sharpener and just ordered the diamond knife sharpening kit.

KME is top shelf for me.  I have several types  of sharpeners, but KME is the best.  Bought mine at Denton Hill, PA last year.

Do they have a web site?
I'd really like to see the sharpener, could someone post a picture?

Thanks!

Note different jaws in broadhead jig... one for broadhead and one for bleeder/replacement blades.

Hey Charlie, thank you for the pictures!

The sharpeners look really nice.

What keeps the broadhead sharpener from getting ground down by the stone?
It looks like it would have to rub the stone to keep the right angle.

Can you change the angle with the broadhead sharpener?

How much are these sharpeners and where can they be purchased from?

Thanks again!

Check the sponsors list for his website. You'll find the price there.

There is a roller bearing that rolls along on the stone to keep the angle. No wear at all.

The angle is adjustable on the knife sharpener but is static on the broadhead jig... at just the right angle I might add.

What angle does anyone find best on the Helle laminated blades?

Thanks

Charlie, is the KME easier than the method you demonstrate with the files on "The Hunters of Tradgang" DVD?

thanks.

I just got off of their web site and I ordered me a broadhead sharpener.

Thanks for this thread because I didn't know anything about these sharpeners.

I love their "about us" page and this is what made me decide to go ahead and order.

Thanks,

Slufoot

Slufoot,

You will not be disappointed.  I am one of the "sharpening challenged" crowd and this tool made it easy.  I sharpned a Zwickey No Mercy head out of the pack to shaving sharp.  Every evening I practice a little more and it keeps getting easier.  (One thing that Ron illustrated to me is just how much material has to be removed from a laminated tip BH out of the pack before the real sharpening begins).  The best part is Ron's commitment to making sure the customer is successful with his product.  He will not rest until you are satisfied with the result.  We should all support business like this!
