I am not sure I could shoot one of them, I can sit and look at one for hours in awe

I was just weighing this one thinking of shoot it this fall. It weighs in at 240 grs of knife river flint.
I was fortunate enough to met Woody Blackwell at a Texas Sweet hunt. And had the pleasure to watch him work a piece of stone into one of these, actually several. Kidding him before the hunt, I asked for a LH single bevel :jumper:
So what does he show up with but single bevels, is there no limit to stone :D
This one is not a single bevel, it matters not.
I guess I will just have to start making my own, that I do not covet as this one. To shoot
Wow. That thing looks like it was stamped out of a machine. Excellent work.
That . . is a beauty !
ChuckC
His work is without a doubt the best I've ever seen.
Even if I had only one, it would ride against the strike plate of my bow every outing, until God gave me the opportunity to run it through a deer.
AAAAWESOME!!!!!!!!!
I got to watch him work, received one of his stone heads, and then spent the day chasing hogs with Mr. Blackwell. Some special hunting memories. He is the best - period.
Makes mine look like they are made out of silly putty! Oh to have skill like that!
Brent, Brent, Brent... If you can't bring yourself to shoot that one, I've got one I just made today out of some plain-jane Texas chert. It's a good working point -- sharp, strong, with good lines. It's one of those with "dead deer" written all over it.
If you promise to hunt with it, PM me your addy and it'll be in the mail tomorrow. Deal? :wavey:
See what I mean?

:goldtooth:
Well there you have it.... no excuse now.
Wow... now you HAVE to kill some thing with it to fulfill the prophecy! No pressure....
We expect a full report with pics and post mortum. LOL!
Very cool...
I watched Woody for hours in Fredrickburg, Texas this winter. This guys an artist. Take him up on that offer.

Brent, here is Woody's single bevel wonder with little blood on it! Don't remember specifics of who shot what but perhaps you or Woody will remember. It sure was neat to see all the pieces of art that Woody created as the week passed by. As time passed the pile of chips on the porch got deeper and deeper. There is no end to the talent in those hands.
Amazing
he's the best around
good luck with it Brent
iv got some plans to test some out on a dead buff when we get round to it, maybe next year.
Good grief!! That is impressive.
Brent,
As good as they look straight from the Woody's hand...They actually look Better in Red! Doc

Thats awesome, I would love to be able to give that a go. Sure would be cool to send one thru a deer as well! One of these days!
Tippit, I wonder if we could come up with a flintknapped fly pattern... There's this creek in Wyoming... :readit: :campfire:
Impressive work for sure. One day I will be able to make a head worthy of hunting...
Hope to get a little "red" on this one later this fall.
I was lucky enought to be the high bidder at the St Judes auction again this year so I have a couple "in stock"
Regards, Bert. (http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh216/quartermoonlongbows/IMG_0018.jpg)
Can someone please provide demensions for a stone head suitable for deer size game? :help:
HOLY SMOKES! those are beautiful. Gettin my hair up even. I'm thinking I need a couple in 300 gr single bevel. I would love to give this a go. Dang now I have something else to think about.
That blue one is incredible bert, just incredible. anybody got a good link to photos with kills and stone points?
And knife, when you get that fly pattern worked out, i live in wyoming.. :-)
Woody I was not fishing for a point :readit: It was strictly a observation on my part. Coveting the head you gave me in Texas. Thinking about what you said, use it. I get it out and look at it, and get all wrapped up into the how its done. With such perfection, every little flake that is missing. That makes it such a wonder to behold, and makes it such a lethal cutting instrument. Parts of it may be my being taken back to Texas and that Sweat hunt. Makes me glow with every memory, and all the guys there. How I would like to share a camp them all again.
I remember the day, you got up and said HERE. I have to stretch my legs, give it a go. To say I was intimated is a understatement. But I did sit down and worked two piece's of your waste. All I did was what a monkey would do, monkey see monkey do :D All I could think was don't bust it in two, just remove with grace. What did not look like it should be there!
I ended up with these two heads 1 @ 40 grs the other 74 grs a touch light but from your flakes.

I did buy some knapping tools, after this hunt. But still have not put the pressure to the flaker. Guilty of stone neglect
My only excuse is, OK I don't have one :knothead:
Brent, I know you're not fishing. If I thought you were, I wouldn't make the offer -- I'm not that nice a guy. :smileystooges:
I beg to differ, :D on the nice guy part :archer:
Andy I would love nothing better, than to share a :campfire: with you again. ANYWHERE Long as you promise to run another live hog though my sleeping quarters :jumper:
And Doc, you are so correct. Those red ones are awesome!
Man oh man what a group this TradGang is. Blown away every time I sign in. Twice, three times daily! :help:
Woody,
If you come up with a flint fly, I want to be the first to swing it thru that Big Bend Hole on the Cottonwood :) Only trouble that there is Catch & Release. Everything I've seen you knap is deadly :notworthy: tippit
"come up with a flintknapped fly pattern..."
Would that be a stonefly nymph or a Bernie dun?
Killdeer :D
It should be a dry fly,no floatant allowed (parachute Adams?)
Cool thread!
How about a three blade knapped head Woody? If anyone could do it I'd put my money on you.
so theres youre answer killy,
A Knife Rifer Stonefly
brilliant
Doc go to his site, and look at the little things sticking in the onion. I do believe he could make you a barbless model :biglaugh: The trick is putting the eye in it :D
:clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
Knap a DRY FLY with no floatant??? You people are sick. Seriously disturbed. And that's why I like ya. :wavey:
I am at a loss of what to call them, stick pins??? They are simple amazing, I am almost glad I do not have one. I would have to wear\\buy a jewelers magnifier, to admire it in detail. :D
John has the light touch :notworthy:
