Hi, i have a Draw lenght of 31", and i'm thinking to buy a Samick Red Stag TD 40@ 28. The samick is 60" long. The question is, may i have some problems with this bow considering my Draw lenght? somebody told me that i may break the limbs. Is it true? I like that bow, and i had good comments about it from you. What can you tell me? thanks!
You must be a really big guy. Is your 31" draw for compound? I don't know if you would break the limbs, but you might get some serious string pinch. The best people to ask would be Samick. You really might want to think about a longer bow or one that is meant for a 31" draw at 60"
I have nine takedowns (mostly Bear)that are 60" in length. I have a thrity inch draw with arrows cut to 31". I have shot for over forty years like that with no harm to any bow. I doubt if one more inch will hurt much. I do admit my 62" bows shoots a little better but I use the 60" bows for hunting most of the time.
Talk to the bowyer/manufacturer.....
BobW has the best response.
I have a 32" draw. Don't cheat yourself ouit of the powerstroke you have with a short bow, go as long as you are comfortable with. 66" recurves have tremendous cast at your draw.
Hi p1choco, :-) yes i'm realy BIIIIG, i am 2 meters tall. i sent a mail to Samicksports but they didn't answer me yet. Thanks barefoot, wow, it's good to heard that you had no problem with nine bows at 30" for forty years, i'm too much easy because it's just 1" difference, Samick is not bear, but i hope haven't problems. Thanks Again for your experience.
Thanks BobW, i sent a mail to Samicksports but they didn't answer me yet. Thanks Again to Everybody, new comments and opinions, will be appreciated. (Excuse my english, i speak spanish a little better :D )
The cast is a result of limb design versus riser length, as well as bow length. With a 31" draw, however, I would be looking at at least 62 and maybe 64/66. But years ago, guys shot 50" compound bows with their fingers, and some of those guys were shooting 32 inch arrows. I guess it's all relative, eh? No stack on a compound, but they had finger pinch.
For the record (and some of you guys know me), I'm 6'7", draw 32" (and still short drawing), and shoot bows ranging from 56" to 68". Each purchase was based on significant conversations with the bowyer. I have had a few major name guys tell me "no thanks", and others got so excited they actually re-created a bow model. I won't mention names now, but some of you know what I'm talking about. The best thing to to is discuss it with a bowyer. You might not be able to buy a production bow, but from my experiences (and I did blow up a production bow), getting a product from someone that is going to address your needs is paramount. Good luck in your search. Be patient, and be willing to have some setbacks in your plans. I can sympathise.

BobW This will be my first Take Down Bow, i was searching for a good bow for a reasonable good price, i can't pay for a custom bow, so, i need to adjust my needs to a production imported bow. I did't see a bow in that price (180 US). I'm from Argentina, i can't find nothing here, so i need to buy on ****, and hope no problems. It's very hard for me to buy a bow in this way, but i don't want to give up, and resign me to wait for a bowyer that sell good bows in Argentina. I appreciate too much your opinions and experience, Thanks Again...
There are a fair number of Samick risers for sale without limbs on the auction site for a reason.

In your/my situation (long draw), it really makes it a challenge to buy "bows for the masses", and it becomes a major disappointment when plans don't work out. Stick with it. There are some bows out there, and thorough research is the way to find them. Do some searching here. There are a bunch of folks here that will help. Tough to say, but maybe you need to wait another year or so, set a plan to put maybe $20 a month aside, and grow the bow fund. It surprisingly adds up quickly.
Thank you BobW,i'm reaaly thinking about your words, may be i must wait. If you can and want, please send me a PM with a recommendation about bows for our lenght, I'll be very gratefull if you can do it for me.
Thanks and thanks to the people who gave me yours opinions!!
