Ladies and gents I'm about to embark on my first long-distance longbow adventure in a couple weeks time. (a mountain caribou hunt in the NWT)I have a Robertson Mystic longbow (one piece) and am wondering about protecting it on the flight(s), my plan was to use a chunk of pvc pipe with caps but am curious if anyone has any other ideas I should try.
Thanks
That's just fine there Al. You can pack clothes around it and be good to go! I hope you have a great hunting trip!
Just make sure that it is schedule 40 pipe and not irrigation pipe.
Yep, i've used PVC pipe quite a few times when flying. When I hunt with a partner, we duct tape our tubes together and also duct tape two more shorter tubes holding our arrows to the longbow tubes. That way, we only have to pay one extra baggage charge. Haven't flown for several years, but should still work. Good luck.
After watching my pvc tube fall off a baggage cart and go rolling across the runway, I suggest doing it like Orion said and attach your arrow tube to the bow tube. That's about the most excited I've ever gotten while flying!
Scott...the pvc is the best way to go...not ttotally bombproof but should withstand anything the airlines will do to it...all the best on your trip...shoot straight...can't wait to here the stories!!
I'm lucky enough to live near a business that makes custom bags. I had one built that will hold my two longbows in pvc, my arrow pvc, and gear. The bag is probably 12" X 12" X 60" Works great!
