My Buddy Chris Spikes and I headed to the swamp today to hopefully run across some pork and scout persimmons for early bow season.
We started out shortly after daybreak in swealtering heat and humidity but it felt good to in the swamp.
We found a wallow or two right off the bat.We were in a place I had not been to in a long time and Chris was on his first trip.

Headed on through the swamp through scattered pig sign to the River...covered in fog..

Cut back across the swamp in more pork sign..

We went to 3 or 4 different spots several miles apart and each area had its own resident Big Boar judging by the tracks...

Then while easing up to an oxbow lake hoping to get some footage of a lake lizard I almost wet my britches when I stepped within a foot of this sassy rascal...

All in all it was a good trip. We found several persimmon trees that will be kill`n spots come September and managed to walk up to within 25 yards of a bedded sow we ran off while looking at persimmon trees. Shot stumps had great fellowship and HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHRIS!!!
Awesome, sounded fun and I always love to see the pics!!
RC, the legless lizard looks to be fairsized!
Note to self, carry extra britches if I ever get down that way!!
Is that a centipede on the stick behind im?
Looks like a millipede.
RC, I always like to see your post, cause there are going to be some great pics involved.
I like all your swamp stories and pics. Thanks.
Go figure, RC out scouting pigs. Who would figure. You are a pig killing machine.
But me and that snake just won't get along. He looks to be a 30 footer!!!!!! :scared: Can you tell how much I hate snakes.
good day carter!
RC, I'm not up on my snakes being a Yankee..lol. Is that a cotton mouth or something else???
That looks like a planted snake to me!
You see, some of us rednecks catch as many poisonous snakes as we can and turn them loose around all the parking areas. Keeps the crowds away!
Just kidding! :)
Great stuff RC!! The fog pic is sellable! That snake is in perfect position to see if it's a viper or not. Snakes can ruin a good hunt because hogs smell urine a long way off.
