I have bought and sold alot of bows over the years. I alway worried about shipping a 1 piece bow so I came up with this. It cost me about $12 materials and about $35 to ship, but it has made it every time un harmed to the new owner. 2x3 & 3/8 plywood.
Steve, when you get this, have fun opening it...

Now thats a shipping box -- reminds me of some of the shippments I received overseas that were lets say shipped via a most questionable mode of transport. Bet that gets there SAFE !
"Get er done"
That looks BOMBPROOF
I'm the lucky sonofagun on the receiving end of that package. Mark, you've gone above and beyond and it is greatly appreciated.
I just received a bow from dessert dude last week and it could have survived a drop ship from 10,000 ft w/ no parachute to my doorstep! The package stated 10 lbs from UPS! lol The longbow alone weighs about 1 lb. He can pack them with the best of them!
thanks again
Nice packing job! You would think it would cost more to ship and weigh more then 10 pounds. Best part is, they can be reusable. Right?
Thank's for the kind words. The longbow weighed 10# the recurve box comes in at a smooth 30#
Nice idea. Are those zip ties you attach the bow to the box with?
Boy, I can just hear your wife....
Where the H&!! is my towel?
Ya know, that wouldn't be a bad way to package a bow for an airline trip. PVC tubes work ok for longbows but I've had two of the schedule 40 weight ones broken at the ends caps. The good thing about that box for airline travel is that it wouldn't roll around in the baggage transport carts. You could also nail on a simple rope handle too.
At $12 dollars in materials it's also about $25.00 cheaper than a PVC case. I'm pretty sure I spent $40.00 plus on the ones I built but that might be including primer, glue etc. It's been a while.
Mark, how did you know I needed this thread? My Wes Wallace has a broken tip. When I got home I wanted to put on the string you made. Opened sock and out came the tip. Looks like the wood overlay separated from the glass then broke as it fades into limb. Hopefully Wes can repair. No more jokes about a bow losing its' MOJO.
Nice job Mark.
You might want to pick up that rake before you knock your self out. :biglaugh:
Yes those are Zip ties, Tom sorry to hear about your Wallace. I just shipped a Wallace longbow, I used a piece of 3" black PVC and the end caps that go with it......
Received one in a box just like that one, from aka rightminded. There was never any doubt that the bow would arrive alive. Didn't know if the box contained a bow, or a short person with their toes sticking up.
When I got mine from him I broke out the hammer and the wooden stake!!! I didn't know what might be in that coffin!!! I do hope that the bow is blood thirsty like a Vampire!!
