Title: Recommend a string maker
Post by: Kevin L. on August 17, 2009, 11:49:00 AM
Hey guys and gals,
I know this has probably been hashed out before, but I need to get some strings made and was looking for a recommendation. Nothing fancy, 2-bundle flemish Dacron is what's needed. I've ended up with several bows that came without strings, plus a couple of bows that could use new ones.

Who do you suggest?

TIA,

Kevin

I like Chad Weaver runs a site called  www.recurves.com (http://www.recurves.com)  good guy to do business with.

Me tooooo ! Chad is the tip top in my book, excellent service and fun to hang out with too. He sure pulled my fat out of the fire two years ago when I was out of town in Illinois with no string.

In addition to Chad Weaver as mentioned above,

Tollgate Bowhunting Supply (a sponsor here)is wonderful to deal with as well.

I recommend learning to make your own. It's not hard and it's nice to be able to crank out a string when you need one.

Shoot me an email if you need jig plans, I am pretty sure I still have the drawings I made.

I've gotten strings from Chad Weaver (LBR) and Bobby Graham here (Bobby's not making them for sale right now...) and I just got a new one from Christopher Carolla (CJC).  I have gotten excellent service from all those guys.  Good looking and very functional strings, and all three guys were very friendly and helpful!

Don't think you can go wrong with any of the Trad Gang Sponsor string makers.  I would order from any of them again, and will!

Curtis,
I used to get them from Bobby Graham also. Since he's not selling right now, I was looking for another source.

Coop, I'm one of those guys who have to see it done for it to sink in. Can't learn to do something with my hands from a book, for some reason. I'll send ya an e-mail for the drawings, but I'll need to see it done.

Thanks,

Kevin

Linda Brackenbury makes about as nice of a string as anyone out there in my opinion.

My vote goes to Steve (bearbowman@comcast.net)
He makes wonderful strings, FF materials, has colors on hand, padded loops, and very accurate as far as string lengths go. He is also the string maker for Bob Morrison bows.
