Hey Michael,
You lucky dog. I wish I still lived in S. West Missouri. I'm back in SE Mo now but my wife and I spent 5 years in  Springfield. Great part of the state to live in. Really nice people & TONS of opportunity for good fishin' & huntin'.

Missouri has lots of public land areas from the big ones like The Mark Twain National Forrest to smaller conservation areas. We've also got the Ozark National Scenic Riverways wich is a series of 7 Rivers that meander through the entire Ozark Range. Most are within an hour or two drive anywhere in S. Missouri. Just south of Springfield is Bullshoals & NE of Springfield is Lake of the Ozarks. Like I said TONS of opportunity.

You can go to the Mo Dept. of Conservation and pick up Missouri's Conservation Atlas. It lists all the Mo Conservation Areas by county and tells you what's available at each site and what is allowed. It's worth the $20. investment.

Was born in Nevada, grew up and lived just a few miles east of there for 40 years. You wouldn't run out of places to go and critters to chase any time soon. Your looking at Stockton and Truman Lakes very close not to mention several rivers and creeks and like ramblr says MO has tons of public lands. Kansas is just west with some great opportunities also. Fishing, hunting and the great outdoors in abundance.

Wouldn't give up Montana for anything at this point in my life but SW MO is pretty "golden" also.

Have fun!

That area around Truman lake is a turkey hunting paradise! I try to get there every couple years and have never been disapointed.

Deer, turkeys, quail, rabbits, all kinds of small game!! Fishing galore. Shell Osage and Four Rivers Conservation areas for ducks and geese are within an hour from Nevada. Yes SW MO is a sportsmens paradise. And unlike Doug who gets all four seasons in MT (June, July, August and winter). We get spring, summer, fall and winter. LOL

You will be very happy in Nevada.  Great hunting and fishing.  That is the part of the state where the crops start, so there is some great hunting.  Look me up, and I will be happy to tag along.
