Title: Need help with hanging bows
Post by: DeathMetal on August 13, 2009, 04:07:00 PM
I have been storing my bows under the bed but I would like to hang them on the wall. What are the best ways to do this that will not damage the bow or scuff the walls up?

You can buy a coat rack that you can put hats, coats etc. on at Lowes that is made of pine with about 10 pegs that you glue in on a predrilled 1"X3"  and it's about 3or 4 feet long...You just mark where your studs are assumeing you have a stud finder and screw that to the wall...It cost about $10.00 0r $15.00 for it and you finish it whatever way you like....I found this to be cheaper then making one and the pegs can each hold two longbows or one recurve in the vertical position if you hang unstrung with the string slid down on the upper limb...That's what I got in my shop and have about 15 bows on it....Looks good... God Bless and hope this helps...Keefer's <")))><

I drilled holes in the wall and drove in pieces of broken arrow shafts, but it doesn't sound like that's what you're looking for...   :)

I took a couple screw in tree steps and screwed them into the studs on the wall.  :)

I hang mine on coat rack pegs.  I put a loop through the end of the string keeper and hang them unstrung with the string keeper on. No worries about marking up the top limb.

I like Jim's idea it makes it look like you own ten bows instead of five and you have an identical bow...   :goldtooth:

I used 3 2 x3 inch x 8 ft. I cut one in two 4 ft lengths to make the cross brace for a stand up bow rack I then made the pegs from cedar arrows that had broken. I was able to then make the rach to fit the 5 bows I use all the time. Each bow is strung and hangs on the rack by it bow string. I findished it off with wiping it down with maple stain from the dollar store and let it dry out. I then used some water base poly as a finish coat. I only have to have one screw into the wall to hold the bow rack. Sure makes a better place to store bows than under a bed...

Do you all hang them unstrung? I have always been told if you use it keep it strung.

I took a 1x4 and some old broken arrows, drilled and glued arrows in it, then mounted to studs in garage, holds about 15 bows.

Some have seen this before, I made this one from Eastern Red Cedar. It was a fun project.

I like the coat rack idea, I hung my bows with those screw in bow holders,"in the garage of course" but I think I'll make a coat rack style and put it in the house!! Jason

if your are not concerned with looks, then this is simple and effective...just simply 1x strips with dowel pegs (place them as close as you want depending on type and number of bows)...took me 1/2 hour to buid start to finish.
