Do you still have that Bighorn? I believe Fred started in 1977. I couldn't afford to get mine until 1982. I think they were $295.00 then. What did they cost in '78?

I'm real lucky to have a Dad that always wanted a Houseboat. We built this 21 years ago out of old cypress houses we tore down ourselves. I really cherish every trip I make to the camp. It has a diesel motor and generator on the back.

It was a 12 ft gator from a long time ago. The buyer had it from another fisherman and he gave it to my dad.

wallcrawler.... awesome pics.... youll probably need to resize them down, or theyll get pulled....looks like a great camp.
Thanks for the heads up, now to figure out how to resize things. I should have taken more pics after the camp was fully set-up as well.
Wallcrawler, how do you like that army tent? Does it have the liner? Almost bought one recently for about $250 with the liner but couldn't swing it.
I absolutely love that Army Arctic tent with liner. You can squeeze 3 cots and a stove in there, if you use a tripod to set it up its even better inside. We have two and I always think about getting one more. One on **** right now which looks promising with the telescoping pole and stakes. The part I really like is that you can raise the walls up in the heat and let the air move through to stay cool. In the winter with a stove and lantern you might as well lounge in your skivies it gets so warm.

Sweet cabin for sure Man!!! Is that up on the park and close to your house I presume??
I like it!!
Kadbow, That 1st pic is breath-taking to say the least!! How long to build? Could you drive up to it with the supplies? Great looking camp and super cool that you and your Dad built it yourselves. Any elk antlers hanging in there????
(http://i711.photobucket.com/albums/ww111/elkherder/k08729191.jpg).......close to camp
Jake, it is near Yampa. jcar, we built it one summer and yes we could drive supplies up but we had to haul water by hand and use a generator for electricity. It was a great summer building it. There are a few antlers in there.

Well, I'd post some pics of fall hunting woods, but I don't have the campsite experience to go with. I always hunt out my back door. Cool pics! Looks like fun!

Cool pictures! All you guys tenting out makes me sort of jealous. How nice it would be to camp out with minimal mosquitoes! The amount of mosquitoes recently have just exploded. We got a week of rain and they must have had a mosquitoe orgy and laid some serious eggs! Almost unbearable!

Just looked through all...I need to find some of camp when I was 14 some 22 years ago. But then again they're of a rifle camp, but it was in the U.P. of Michigan in old Army tents. I got to see them again last fall after my grandma passed, brought back a lot of good memories!

She wouldn't dream of touching it. It isn't cooked yet. That is the difference between this Jindo and the Shepherd/Husky mix I had before her. Spirit won't touch raw meat, but Sheba would earnestly offer to guard the deer while I got ready to drive it to the check-in... and take a few chews outa the nether-regions while I was gone.
Spirit is no help with cleaning up small scraps when you butcher. This cheers up the blue jays immensely, and puts them in a frolicsome mood.

Ron, The Brule River awesome place. Had a few friends working there while I was in college. They were Trying to figure out the lamprey situation.
My professor and hunter wrote a great song about it and brought it to lecture a few times.
Great memories.

Staking out the wings of the vestibule kept the vestibule drier than when they are closed. Moisture coming out of the tent can escape, rather than condensing on the inside of the vestibule. The weight of the snow, combined with the stretching of the material due to dampness, causes the front of the vestibule to sag.
Fair weather:

Plastic toboggans are great for hauling gear and deer, and don't tear up the ground like wheels and air-bobbed feet.

A somewhat remote island whitetail hunt found me on a solo journey. This was my home for the trip.
While scouting/hunting/stump shooting may way back to camp for lunch, I was successful in harvesting my largest trophy to date......

This old growth stump was taken with a single well placed shot from my Thunderstick andhexpine shaft. I wondered how old this tree was, and what events took place on this island in its lifetime. Did early French or Native trappers camp in its shade? How many seasons did it stand watch over the expanse of water surrounding the island?

The journey to this camp was far from easy, but the rewards of the experience were worth the trip. I'll be back again this fall.

The picture captures the color, but only the memory can capture the smell of the fall forest, only the ears can capture the silence, only the soul can capture the solitude.
Hi Callmaker,
"Telma" is my four years Teckel and she is much better hunter than me.... There is plenty of hunting animals in Spain, both big and small game. That place is specifically good for hogs
