Welcome archshooter.
There are quite a few on line places that carry good leather. Moscow Hide and Fur comes to mind but I know there are a bunch of others. Partly it depends on what kind of leather you want. For tooling, vegetable tanned I think is the norm. Latigo leather is super quality but also more expensive. You might check your local phone book. You might have a shop around home you don't even know about and it's nice to be able to walk in and handle the pieces before you buy. Plus, most shops will have what they call "blems", "seconds" and scrap leather and you can often get a pretty good deal on them.
There are a lot of options though besides store bought leather. I've seen some real nice back quivers made out of the sleeves off both leather and wool coats. You have to put something in the bottom to prevent the arrows from poking through but the soft design conforms to your back and is very quiet and stable.
Good luck in your search.
I like to be able to touch and inspect leather before I buy it. Fortunately for me there is a Tandy's nearby. I checked their site and there is a shop in Milwaukee if you are up for a drive.
I was surprised to see Tandy's was still around. The prices seemed reasonable.
I make a few quivers ;)
Tandy is good and their prices are reasonable.
Siegal of California generally has higher quality stuff for slightly cheaper.
I've had issues with Moscow Hide and Fur. Their grading system doesn't match up well with what they send.
"theleatherguyofmn" or something like that on fleabay is good to deal with too.
I agree with Jeremy, I have been dealing with Siegal's of California for a few years. They have deals each week and if you buy larger hides you can save a lot.
A second for Siegal of California. Plus ifn' I remember right they have free shipping on orders over $75.00.
Latigo Leather from Tandy - sign up and get a newsletter which includes the speacial of the month - it goes on sale. Look online maybe they have a location near you - they have one a few mile away from me and I never knew it.
