This is my first time using Snuffer 160s and they are hissing slightly. I have the blades in line with my feathers. They are flying nicely and hitting, so I really don't want to play around moving the heads. Anybody ever have this problem? Thanks in advance.
Mine too.
Did not find any adverse effect on deer.
I believe the string noise is the most important.
Good luck,
F-Manny
Ya it's called "THE HISS OF DEATH" it's the last thing a deer hears!
They all do it....not to worry
Music to my ears....
You would think magnus would do something to fix it
It sounds like the black arrow Howard Hill launched in The Adventures of Robin Hood - SWEET MUSIC.
You can round over the the back surfaces with a fine file and that helps
Doesn't matter. Never missed a deer because of it.
The new Woodman Elites hiss too - they say it's the blade braces
I shoot G5 Montecs and they are silent
The regular woodsmans hiss a little as well. I have come to like the sound.
I have heard of an archer putting scotch tape over the vents to quiet the 3 blades. Sounds like it might work.
Just a little gop of wax in the vents will kill the his of death.
I just bought six 125grn snuffers and they don't make any noise and group real well, very happy with'im!! Jason

SO very, very, true!!! No need to worry about it, I've never had an issue with that sound.
I've yet to kill anything with the big snuffer but plan to this fall...the hiss is really my only concern even after hearing folks that have had very good luck say not to worry.
I've yet to ever watch a video that the deer hasn,t reacted and moved before the arrow got there which is where the concern for quiet flight comes in...most of us would duck if we heard something heading our way or at least flinch and we don't have anywhere near the reaction time of game animals
I can get them sharp and get them to fly well but the hiss is there...we'll see....LOL hopefully a gusher coming out both sides hahahahahaah
I've killed several animals with the big Snuffers, and if the hiss affected them I couldn't tell it. I've never heard the hiss, but my ears aren't what they used to be...
Aluminum arrows make a good bit of noise in flight that you don't hear with wood- if the broadhead noise spooked deer, surely the singing of aluminum in flight would do likewise.
Tom, the string noise at the release is what trigger game reaction, at least IMO
Good luck this fall

I agree, it's tha "TWANG" that the animals jump to.
I think it's KEWL that some heads "HUMM" on their way
Although I've killed a few with em, they are loud, like a windstorm heading to the target, switched to large 2 blade head, works good for me ...
Well, I guess I'll leave the heads as they are and maybe try the wax. It certainly isn't loud. At first I thought it was my fletching. Also, I have 4 fur silencers on my string this year and I think that is much more quiet. My string makes a very low bass sound. Thanks again.
I don't fool with mine, but I've talked to guys that try to doctor it. As stated above, I've also heard of scotch tape over the vents, polishing any burrs/paint imperfections, rounding the back edges, wax or vaseline on the heads - I vaseline mine anyhow to prevent rust or oxidation, so maybe that helps, as I don't notice much noise. I agree with above that the bow is what the animal hears moreso than the arrow.

I think the arrow might sound like a bird in flight to the animals. DD Quillian, on the African hunt that he and Dan made, killed a cheetah (legal, but he couldn't bring the hide back). He told me that the cheetah turned and caught the incoming arrow in his mouth. I believe they were both using Snuffers.
I've noticed the same with both WW and the 125 gr snuffers I have been shooting. The way I look at it is that a sudden short, sharp sound such as the thwack of the string (or thump if you shoot a whisperstik ;-) is much more disconcerting to an animal than an elongated gradually increasing sound of air flowing over the broadhead, or feathers for that matter.
If it's a problem we need a new excuse: "the deer jumped the broadhead".
I've said it before and I'll say it again
" I like the noise, it lets that big buck know he is about to be SNUFFERIZED"! Never had one jump string to the noise of a broadhead. Been using Snuffers for a long time now and they have put down alot of game. Don't sweat it, just hunt.

The old Pearson "Dead Heads" almost whistled when you shot them. We used to round off the insides of the vents and it helped a bit but never missed a shot due to the sound. String harping will do more to spook the deer.
I shoot a Howatt Mamba and the hiss goes well with the whole snake theme so I like it.
I tried mounting them backwards and it didn't work either. It is part of the package.
