Title: Which 4 blade?
Post by: Avid Archer on August 09, 2009, 09:30:00 PM
Im going with 4 blade broadheads this year and have narrowed it down to the Muzzy Phantom or the Magnus Stinger, the 125gr. screw in variety.

Anyone with experience with either or both of these heads please share your thoughts on durability, sharpness out of the package, ease of sharpening, etc.

Thanks AA

I have used both with great results. The phantom is a larger head so which I use is picked by bow and arrow weight.I use stingers or buzzcuts on light arrows but will use the phantom on heavier arrows. All mine have shaved from the package and are easy to get back to that point after use.

I posted looking for 125 gr. screw in recommendations.  I got a lot of them for the Phantom.  I was give three to try out.  I am very impressed with the accuracy.  I don’t know how they do on game, but they fly great and should cut a big hole.  I will be very happy if they are as durable as the three blade Muzzy’s I have shot for years in the compounds.

If you are looking for a 125 grain screw in....either will serve you well.  Phantoms are a little bit bigger cut width overall.

I'm a big Stinger fan. Thick main blade and strong ferrule.

Another vote for the Stingers.  Strong construction, perfect flight, great penetration, wicked damage, and the best customer service in the business.

They are both in my quiver.  I have shot deer with both and had good results with both. As stated earlier the Phantom cuts a little bigger hole.  I do find myself reaching for my Stingers a little bit more often just a habit more than anything.  I have found that Stingers do sometimes have a slight noise when you shake them but can never hear anything when I shoot them in the back yard.  I have sent BH's back to Magnus and have to say their service is outstanding. But as Terry stated both will serve you well.  Good luck Joe

I would recommend Magnus over the Phantom for one reason and one reason only.  They have a tanto tip.

I recommend the Stinger----very tuff b-head. I've shot "yote and deer with the 150 version--great results. I used the 125 gr. version in my compound days---great results there too. Plus---"send in a picture of any animal harvested with a Magnus Stinger broadhead, and Magnus will send you a hat or a T-shirt"!

I've shot many deer with both. I like the stingers more. The smaller bleeders decrease drag and in turn increase penetration and the main blade and bleeders are both sharp on back sides.

I shoot the phantoms, unless I'am in a state that prohibits removable blades.

Given those two choices, I'd definately go with the Phantoms.
