I'd want an Adcock ACS CX at 70+#'s, but I here you'd never get it....so I had to choose the ones above first.
-
Well, I have a feeling that I'm going to stumble upon my real "dream bow" at a show some day, but right now I'd have to say that it would be a Whisperstik Kajikastik - 62", 45#.
Number 2 would be a Dwyer Dauntless.
-
Tomahawk Diamond Woodland Hunter 62",60#
-
- Saluki Horn Bow
- San Marcos Longbow
- DAS Gen 1 riser w/ Morrison carbon and foam
longbow limbs
-
BW PMA II 60" w/55,42,30# limbs(Going to be reality soon) :readit:
Pretty much any wood riser Morrision ILF w/carbon foam limbs
I've never shot one but I have a feeling I'd like those shanzzy Silvertips
-
I just actually got my dream bow--and it has taken over from some very, VERY, qualified applicants ;) . I just got it in June so I have no game shots with it, but I am sure it is going to be a killer. My new TallTines recurve 60", 55@28, and is the fastest recurve I've owned!
The TallTines has taken over #1 from my Silvertips. My favorite is my 55# Ebony 3pc.
And my longbow is a Super Shrew Chameleon; 53@28 with elk antler tips and a Bevel Lok takedown system.

Border Griffon GL:
My third would be the bow I hear Border is developing; you might say I'm a true believer in whatever Border comes out with. There are better bows than mine but they're new, improved Borders! I like woods lams though so I'm staying where I am. :D

Just want 1 Black Widow.Someday it will happen.
-
Jack Howard Gamemaster Jet
Morrison Cheyenne
Black Widow PTF
-
1970 Bear Custom Kodiak
1959 Bear Kodiak
1962 Bear Kodiak
Pretty simple, eh?
-
21st Century
Shrew Samurai
TAC Black Sheep with BF Extreme limbs.
Got all three and love em!
-
Steiner,Cross and Bruin one of each don't even want to shoot them just need to be in one piece they were all made in West Virginia by now defunct companies.
-
Hi All,
Bear Archery, while Fred was still in affiliated with the company, offered 1000 Custom Kodiak Take Down bows with yew limbs and an osage riser (I think osage). The bows came in a lined presentation/travel case, and were signed by Fred to the original purchaser, and numbered 1-1000. Way back then they were $1000 each. I dream about them now and then.
-
Gee just 3..
I am quite pleased with my 2 whips...
If I were to get 3 from here..
1.) I'd want another whip, but a 2pc with the bow bolt.
2.) I would love a nice curve a silver tip... or a morrison.. or an
adcock.
3.) I'd like a tight quarter short bow... A shrew!!!
But I think my next will actually be a primitive bow... maybe a hickory or osage... cover it in skins, some rivercane arra's and some trade points and some stone heads...
-
3 of Ed Scott's Owl bows, I just tell him go crazy with the art work.
-
My Bear T/D's both the wood and the mag risers..
-
I have two of my three:
1- 60" 50lb@28,'curve St. Joe River Bow made by Craig Potter
2- 62" 58lb@28 longbow St. Joe River Bow made by Craig Potter.
3- Would love to have a St. Joe takedown longbow in the low 50lb range made by Craig Potter, or a John Mccoulgh takedown longbow in the low 50's.
chris <><
-
1. A Howard Hill bow, made by Howard himself.
2. A Fred Bear Tamerlane in mint condition.
3. A Toelke Chinook.
-
My #1 should arrive in the next few days!
Hunters Niche Predator Custom Black Phenolic and Impregnated Maple riser with ladderstrip and 58" black limbs 48#@28".
I'd also love a 1967 Bear Super Mag Black Beauty around 45#. I have a factory camo '67 Super Mag but would like her pretty sister.
A Bob Lee Dark Archer is also on my list to own.
-
I'm growing very fond of Thunderhorn Heartstoppers. I would like a new one piece 62" tricked out out and with all the horn inlays possible. It would be my Sunday Go To Meeting bow. Mr. Jessup is an amazing craftsman.
-
hey guys awesome keep em coming I found another dream bow its a Grozer junior Turkish bow 45# its 45" and 40.5" stung all black its 163 USD so I may be able to get it in a few years cause I just bought a samick volcano so I'm going to wait a few years
-
1- Sapphire Hawk Longbow
2- Schafer 3 piece TD Longbow
3- Rick Welch Dakota Longbow
-
I did not know it at the time, but when Bob Walker traded me his A riser Mesqueet Shawnee with the Dakota Boo Limbs I acquired it !!!! :wavey:
-
1) The right hand version of my freinds Jack Harrison lone wolf with Dall sheep horn riser accents and whale bone tip overlays.
2) Any of Mr La Clairs bows, as long as it was made by him.(hands that can shoot like that have major mojo IMO)
3)A bow actually owned by Fred Bear or Howard Hill or Ben Pearson or Bob lee, I'm not picky.
You should have made this a top ten, 3 just isn't enough!
-
Greg Coffee makes the Bow's for Ron... But they are still very high on a lot of guys lists. :wavey:
-
Based on what I know of Mr La Clair, Greg Coffee is a Bowyer of great talent and dedication, otherwise he would not be where he is. The bows he produces certainly speak for themselves.
Thing is I saw Mr La Clair doing a demonstration shoot at the Prudenville high school when I was about 10. One of my strongest memories from childhood is seeing him shoot. I tried to make a long bow out of anything that would bend for ages after that. Since then I had the pleasure of hanging out in a cabin once owned by Fred Bear on the Au Sable in Grayling Michigan. In fact I had too many wild nights during the hex hatch there to cover here. I even know folks who hunted and fished with Mr Bear. But I never met or saw him myself. I plan on shaking Ron La Clair's hand when I'm in Michigan this October, I look forward to that meeting with pride!
-
I have wanted a Dwyer Endeaver for a long time!
-
I have found two of my three. A Morrison Cheyenne and a Schafer Silvertip. My third choice may either be a Tall Tines or a Whisperstik KajikaStik. I owned a Kajika but it was too heavy for me but oh my what a bow. Will have another at my weight someday. Have never shot the Tall Tines but I like the curves of the bow and have heard great things about them.

I am building a one-piece bow for myself right now (bubinga) and I hope to use it for bear in September. I have also ordered a Tall Tines (bubinga & ebony) from Brian. If it gets here soon I may have to have shoot off to see which goes bear hunting. The third would be a Blacktail, Schafer, or RER. Mike

These two have a bunch of medicine from past hunts. Made from the sinew and rawhide of antelope taken over the years in Wyoming and dreams of taking a bunch more with them in hunts to come.

You know, I finally have figured out my third bow...
I've got the modern heavy hunting lifters covered with the TallTines and the Super Shrew, but the third one is going to be a sentimental favorite; a bow from the year I was born the 1968 Super Kodiak! I know where there is a perfect 50# sitting just waiting for the word to me mine :D
-
SteveO, those are some sweet looking veneers on that Talltine.
-
Black Widow PSAII #55 @27"(Current hunting rig)
Zipper Elkaholic #64 @27"
Not sure on # 3, maybe a BW PL.
-
Steve O, those are some sweet pics!
-
Thanks guys. That TallTines shoots better than it looks if you can believe it! Those vaneers are from LeftyFred here on TradGang. He supplies all the wood for Black Widow and many other top bowyers. I am lucky enough to be a friend and live near his shop, so I got to pick my own Tulipwood for my bow.
-
DAS Elite
Morrison
McColough
In no particular order.
-
I am still trying many to see if they are on the list or not. My current favorite is my MOJO so I am not dreaming about that one anymore.
Right now I am thinking more than dreaming on two.
1 Kajika stick with 56" and 62" curve limbs.
2 Fire Fly 60" route 66 or maybe med. grip.
3 I am still working on this one and they are more dream than thinking. I need to shoot them all more to narrow it down. So far the contenders are Black widow, Morrison LB, SS Shrew, Cari-bow Peregrine.
-
Steve O., My Tall Tines is in getting worked on this week. I am building another bow for myself off or the same form I used to make the HerdBull Bow. I'm using the same wood and veneer combinations on my bow as Brian will be using on the take down he is building for me. Brian will soon be a sponsor and he will have a website sortly so others can experience what we have. Mike

Okay, I have to get 4 bows, because I can't narrow it down to just 3. I need 3 dream bows for hunting and shooting and one to fulfill my fantasy of having the prettiest bow made. These are not listed in any particular order of preference. For specific purposes, I might choose a bow that is slightly different than the specific models I have listed. For instance, to hunt cape buffalo in Africa I chose a Super Shrew Samurai with a Bow Bolt because of its heavier poundage, but it is very similar to its little brother, the Shrew Classic Hunter listed below. For the vast majority of my hunting I would choose the Classic Hunter over the Super Shrew.
Morrison Mini-14 ILF with foam/carbon limbs (interchangeable longbow and recurve limbs, adjustable for poundage and tiller). The most versatile of my favorites.
Shrew Classic Hunter with foam/carbon limbs and Bow Bolt (light, quick, short, great grip, easiest to pack for travel). The most comfortable to use all day long and most fun to shoot of my favorites.
Brackenbury Peerless (Bill Howland's latest design). The smoothest, quietest, most shock free bow I have ever shot, and it does all that without sacrificing speed. This bow combines many of the best characteristics of a target bow and a hunting bow and would be my first choice for 3D shoots.
Blacktail Snakebit (the most beautiful bow ever built). The Snakebit would not have made this list if I were picking my dream bows for shooting, even though it is a great shooting bow. For hunting or shooting targets, I would grab one of the other three bows I have listed before I got to the Snakebit. But the Snakebit is the bow I dream of at night when I think of the most beautiful objects in the world. It is truly a work of art that makes an archer fall in love at first sight! I could just sit around and look at mine all day. I do like to shoot it; however, it is much to pretty to risk ever damaging it.
All of these bows are amazing. I know there are other really good ones out there, but these are the bows of my dreams!
Allan
-
awesome bows guys keep em comin I have new bow bow I want to get a samick stingray or the samick equus they both look like 2 of the black widow bow models.
-
Well, two of my choices would be self bows. One an osage bow by Dean Torges made to pull about 65# at 32". Typical Torges style with some nice copperhead skins on the back.
The other would be a yew longbow of the same specs by a guy many of you probably never heard of. Back before tradgang ever started and when the *********** was new and about the only thing available, there was a man by the name of Jim Fetrow who used to post there. I never met him in person but got to see one of his bows and also a very old bow that he did a full restoration on. If half of what he seemed to know about building yew wood bows is true, he knows more than just about anybody I've ever heard of. I think his main advantage was access to his own yew wood sources, being incredibly picky about staves and incredible attention to detail. Amazing bows in every way.
The third would be a bow I almost bought when I was first getting started in trad bows. It was in a gun shop in Olathe Kansas and I think it was priced at an even $1000 and I'd never seen anything like it. Later I got to very briefly meet the man who built it and heard a lot of stories about him. His name? Jerry Pierce. The bow? A Choctaw recurve. Sure wish I'd made an impulse buy on that bow....
-
i hope my dream bow is going to be a reality in about3 or 4 more weeks, its a black creek banshee.
-
Great bows guys let's see some more bows guys.
-
rambo This is the bow I made out of bubinga.

-
An original Fred Bear Custom Takedown (and I'd use it)
A Torges bow. Either the baleen composite or a selfbow.
A nice little authentic sinew/sage pony bow.
-
I own my first choice, a Marriah Thermal, 60", 46#@28":
The second one is on its way to me, a new to me Schafer Silvertip:
And the third would be either a Blacktail or Wes Wallace T/D recurve. It might well be a Wes Wallace if I could find one with the gorgeous Cocobolo in the one Doc Blues has posted at the top of this page and in my draw weight range, 46-48#@28".
Bill
-
My No.1 dream bow is a Dale Dye Medicine point recurve and I have 2, so I got that covered. My No.2 would be a 62"Robertson Fatal Styk recurve. No.3 a 62" Zipper extreme recurve.

Hey guys I love the bows keep em comin I have done a hella va lot of thinking and I would rather have another samick volcano recurve except 55# @ 28" a original recurve kwikee kwiver clamp on cat whisker silencers saunders brush buttons dacron string kolpin Velcro camo bow socks 2 kwikee tip protectors a bear hair arrow rest or a black rug rest
2117 xx75 Easton alluminom arrows, and two bladed broadheads.
this is the same setup I have know just my volcano is 50# but I love this bow it is so sweet
-
I want and will have one day:
1. Shrew Classic Hunter - 52" to 56" not sure of wood yet
2. Great Plains SR Swift - 58" Blackhawk or Rio Bravo
3. I have a Mohawk on the way and if it fits me well then that will be #3, if not then the search continues.

For their great craftsmanship----Blacktail Bows
For their beautiful design-------Blacktail Bows
I have shot quite a few of the bows listed here. There are a lot of good ones. For me there is only one that comes to the top...time and again. Isn't it great to live in the USA where we have choices?....still....for now....

I wouldn't need three...just this one, which I own.
Morrison Shawnee, carbon/foam dakota longbow limbs, 56" 59#@27. 2nd set of carbon/foam dakota limbs, 63#@27.
I've owned a good many of those mentioned, shot many of the rest and like Snag, I've found my bow. Most important, shoot everything you can get your hands on. I'll bet, sooner or later, you'll have one that stays at the top of your list against all challengers.
-
Black Widow PSA-SA(own two)
Shrew Classic Hunter 56" (Had and sold) :banghead:
Schafer 3 piece Longbow
-
I love these threads though only getting to chose three is a little limiting! I think every bow is capable of shooting well enough to harvest game if tuned properly and time is put to itto learn it's "personality". That said, I love the history adn story behind our weapons of choice adn my short list is as follows:
1) Paul Schafer Recurve. I am a prety die-hard long bow guy, but to hunt with a bow that passed through Paul's hands would be magical.
2) A shorter Sky Trophy longbow. I love my 69" model, but standing 5'9" and drwing 25", I would prefer something around 64"
3)Byron Schurg Aspen Elite aroudn 60 pounds at me draw. Shot one once, loved it, should of bought it.
I have never bought a custome made brand new bow. Never had the money when Earl was alive, but am sure glad I was able to track down an original Sky Trophy.

Well said JC! Enjoy the bow that is your "dream bow"!

I've found my dream recurve, a DAS 21" Naki black anodized, medium Winex limbs for an overall length of 64". (http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i310/jelloats/IMG_4976.jpg)
This one draws around 55#@30", but I may go heavier in draw.
The Schafer Silvertip recurve I had was the best wood riser recurve I've shot.
Hopefully the 2 longbows I have on order will be my dream longbows:
Turkey Creek Double Carbon, 64", 65#@30" Cocobolo riser with wenge flared accent stripe, hickory limb cores
Northern Mist Superior, 66", 65#@30", Bolivian Rosewood riser and american elm limbs.
