Title: Youth bow help
Post by: 1Longbow on August 09, 2009, 12:12:00 PM
I have a 13 year old son ,small for his age and has shot the usual small kids bows. He has passed his Hunters Safety and I would like to get him a youth Longbow. I not real sure of the poundage to get him,as I don't want to over bow him or under bow him either. Any suggestions--Thank you --1Longbow

Or you can contact Mike at Maddog Traditional Archery.  He would be glad to hook you up, and he is a sponsor here.

My son is 10 and I just bought him a 52" kodiak mag 40# at 28"! he was shooting a kids bow that he just outgrew, he 's only pulling about 18" so he can pull it just fine. I only give 150$ for it and it is in excellant shape! maybe that is a route you can go and get a nice old bow that will grow with him!! just my 2 cents, Jason

Have his draw length measured.See what he can draw and hold 30 sec at full draw then drop 10 lbs and he will have something he will enjoy.

A takedown so that you can add heavier limbs later without too much expense wouldn't be a bad idea.

Before spending very much make sure he is going to stick with it.
