Last October, I was relentlessly hunting a big buck who lived in a small patch of cover out in the middle of a cornfield. I had him right under my stand one day, but he offered nothing other than a quartering too shot, which I declined. Saw him a few days later from another nearby stand. Then the farmers took the corn out and all the deer vacated due to the lack of cover. I ended up taking two good bucks during November in a different area. I've been looking for him all spring, and finally saw him last night in a bean field. This area holds very few deer. He did not grow much from last year, but he is bigger. I cannot wait for October!
Good luck buddy. Maybe this year he will spin around for you
Thats awesome Jon!!! Get some trail cameras out and take some pictures you can share with us so we can see both before and after pictures!
Persistance pays. Best luck.
OCTOBER !! How will you wait ?? My season opens on the 30th of this month and I can hardly wait that long !
I hope you figure his pattern out and get a shot!
If his antlers didn't get bigger - the mass of his antlers might have increased.
tick tock - tick tock !!
PICTURES?????
Hey Dan, I've already got two cameras in place in the area he is hanging out in, so hopefully he will show up on one! But I won't be checking them for another couple of weeks.
GOOD LUCK JON!I hope you get him.
Bill
Good luck Jon! I was betting money on you last year - lost when the corn got picked. I'll double up my bet this year and say you'll take him this time!
Joe, thanks for your vote of confidence!
Go get him Jon. Hap
By the looks of your profile picture the buck in question is in trouble! Best of luck Jon.
Well good for you! Nothing like getting personal with a bruiser buck.
I wonder if I should maybe buy some stock in sleeping pills....??? I'm guessing there will be a little tossing and turning in Illinois in the coming nights...
Best of luck to ya!
My $'s on Jon as well, good luck buddy!!
Well if he is bigger than the one in your picture he is a whopper, here's to ya, what better way for a buck to finish his life.
Here he is in late July. He did not grow much, but is a solid 5x5. His G4's are nearly as long as his G3's, and since this video was taken in July, he may have added a bit. This video is him standing about 25 yards from where I nearly killed him last year, and is on the exact spot that I saw him the second time last year. Come on OCTOBER! Boy!!! That's a Nice'Un... Good Luck!!
David
Dead deer walking. All over but the story and hero pics. Go get em Jon! Good Hunting!
Looks like another big one just leaving at the beginning of your vid... wide but not as tall.
Shaun, you are exactly right! Here is a better picture of that buck. This is the one that just walks out of view at the beginning of the video. He's getting there. (http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n132/jonsimoneau/secondbest.jpg)[/IMG]
Here is another pic of the smaller of the two at night. He's not quite "ripe" yet, but could really be something in a couple of years I think. (http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n132/jonsimoneau/upandcomingatnight.jpg)[/IMG]
By the way, I'm not sure I really like the infrared cameras. I know they supposedly do not spook deer, but the night pictures are just not that great. I like them better in color.
I'd have a real hard time not shootin the "little" guy! Good luck
Very nice looks like it has a big body good luck hope you get him.
I place my bet for you Jon. Go get him I expect this thread to evolve with some pics of him in a different pose.
by the way the video ended, it appears that he doesn't have much respect for you...maybe even a triple dog dare?

Actually guys, I'm no longer sure that it's the same deer from last year. I don't have any pictures of the one from last year, but I think he may have been bigger than this one. But still....he looks good enough for me!
