my 23 year old son ryan finally wants to shoot traditional archery.he has tried it a few times to please me i think.he recently moved to the oregon coast and called me yesterday saying he needs a bow so he can start shooting it to go hunting with me.this was the best thing thats happened to me in a while.he's the same height as me same draw length so i gave him his pick out of my herd to call his.bad news is he picked my mohawk, sorry boy,any bow but the mohawk is what i told him.i mailed him both of my widows.lol....kids...go figure eh.
That's great! Is he going to hunt those coast range Roosevelts? I am working on my one son-in-law. He seems to be leaning that way. I think what really got him thinking about it was watching his son wanting to hold my bow and arrows at only 18months old! He is thinking it would be a great activity they could share.
Hey thats great to hear. Just more memories to make now. Get him signed up here if hes not already so we can give him a welcome.

That's great news!
My son still shoots a compound... but has never shot sights. I think it is just a matter of time though. My first 35 deer were taken with a compound (no sights)... and I have been shooting trad only now for about 21 years.
The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree!
i told him he needs a tradganger name so he should be logging one in soon
Good news! Wish I could go too. Rooseys are the top.
roosevelts are tough to hunt, spent more than my share of time chasin them cliff lovin critters around the coast range of oregon.now i'll drive the 300 miles to east side in exchange for some nice gentle slopes :readit:
Cool!
Can't believe you wouldn't give him his first pick though :bigsmyl: Can't change the rules AFTER he picks :goldtooth:
Since he picked your favorite, that proves he has good taste :bigsmyl:

like father like son eh.... :readit:
:wavey:
:wavey: back at ya
Good stuff Larry. Perhaps he can join us on the 2010 Trad elk hunt. Can't says I blame ya on the Mohawk though! :biglaugh:
Good stuff, glad the boy joined the ranks! I would tell my son the same thing if he asked me for my Mohawk, it stays with me, anything else is yours!
my mohawk loves me man...shoots like a dream and i am totally deadly with it out to thirty yds.i have never shot a bow more accurately,me and this bow are a part of each other and when i shoot it its pure magic.this bow will never leave my herd.gonna have a seventy pounder made soon for some grizz huntin in alaska.
i gave him two nice widows...ma111 and PL111.not bad bows for a starter eh.
Since when is there going to be a tradgang elk hunt. I'd be happy if Ben would let me drive out with him and just let me watch. Please Ben. I would probably cry alot if all I got to do is watch but it would be better than nothing,
will the cryin be before during or after hunting hours? if during then forget about it buddy... :D :D
he's allready planning on the 2010 hunt and may join ben and i this year as the camp @@@@@...errr i mean cook. :bigsmyl:
Larry....my long lost father! I'll send my address and maybe you could send out another Widow??? Good on you for being so generous.
hello son....long time no talkie...your dinner got cold so the dog got it.... :D :D
I will weap silently. Un less elk smell tears. Man now you really have me thinking about calling ben and seeing if he has any extra room in the subaru. I know his father is going to drive with him to visit relatives out there. Just for wondering sake what all would i need. I don't mean like gear wise I should have all that but like license tag foog?I do have some vacation to use.
over the counter license and tag..gotta get em before the 28th of aug....your normal huntin gear pretty much is all..several pairs of camo top and bottom (i wear predator green only)but pretty much just hold still as the elk will be focused on me calling whats foog?...lol...pretty much just pitch in for grub ...thats about it..........larry
Well Elkherder I pretty much only hunt in wool thats plaid and solid colored, but I have gotten real close to deer so I hope that would say something for my spot and stock skills. What is the weather like out there in september?
cold at night...warm to hot days....sometimes raining/hail/thunderstorms with hella lightning shows
Will the hunting be in washington cause I thought Ben said it was in oregon. If I can afford the tags get the time off and Ben says it's okay I may be able to sqeek it out.
oregon
Getting closer!!! No cryin' there Matt! Unless it's from fatigue from draggin out a bull..... :biglaugh:
Well as much as I would love to go I wouldn't want to rush it and end up not being prepared. I'll definetly be prepared for 2010. The only tears that would come to my eyes while dragging out a bull would be tears of joy. Man I wish i had more time.
