Title: New Shrew comes through...first trad harvest
Post by: AlanF on August 02, 2009, 04:42:00 PM
Received my new Shrew 56" Classic Hunter Samurai, 46Lbs @ 29", the first week of July and we have been getting acquainted since.  It is a beautiful bow and Gregg added some personal touches for me.  Part of the tip overlays and all of the underlays on the belly are made of a Banyan Tree from the USMC Camp Foster on Okinawa, Japan where I was stationed.  She's fine.  Thanks to Ron for a great design and Gregg for superb execution thereof.

While at the club yesterday I spotted a groundhog on the outer edges of the skeet range.  Upon marking his location I went on with my bow shooting practice and waited until things had slowed down on the range.  Then the stalk began.  Using the woods as my avenue of approach I was able to close to 12 yards using the shadows and brush.  The groundhog's head was the only thing visible and after waiting awhile I realized he was not going to show anything else.  My first shot was about 3" to the left and he dropped into his hole.  After waiting a few minutes he stuck his head out and was eyeing me.  Thinking he might stand to get a better view I waited.  Finally I decided to take the shot and when the arrow left the string I was rewarded with a crushing thump.  When I walked to the spot there he was.  A groundhog is a fitting first trad harvest for me since I have spent more time hunting and have taken more groundhogs with a rifle than any other animal.  It was a good day and my new Shrew is a great bow.

Thanks for the encouraging comments guys.

Doc, you and the gang at the Buckhorn Shoot got me started in the right direction...trying to stay the course.

flungonin, I have been shooting Arrow Dynamics Trad Lites with 200gr points.  Both 5" and 5.5" shield cuts are flying good.
