Brian,
Tell everybody the story about that nice buck!
What bow, arrow, broadhead did you shoot him with?
Was he one of your backyard Iowa bucks?
Did you get any trail camera pictures of him or was he just passing thru?
Great buck lets here the story :coffee:
One heck of a buck! Wow!
Awsome buck Brian :clapper: :goldtooth:

Hey guys. Let me start by saying thanks for the compliments. In late Oct. of last year my dad had spotted a very good buck pass about 40 yards north of one of our stands. Over the years we have seen activity on this particular trail, but had yet to put a stand up there. I decided it was time we get a stand up so early Halloween afternoon I snuck in and hung a stand in a big split oak about 10 yards from the trail. The wind was right for hunting, but daddy needed to be home to do the trick or treat thing, so I snuck out of there and waited a few days until the wind was right. At daybreak the sun was rising through the trees and I was sitting back just taking the beautiful morning in. At about 7 am I heard some running behind and and sure enough here came a doe right by the base of my tree. She stood about 10 yards out looking back. Next her fawn came by (button buck) and cut to the east. Then came the buck. I could see some junk here and there but didn't recognize the buck in the few seconds that I had to get a decent look. He passed by the base of the tree. I started to draw but didn't like the steep angle or the pace that he was travelling, so I let down. They continued on to that south standing about 50 yards away. I felt pretty confident that they would come back. The does fawn had seperated and was standing on the other side of a ditch. The trail that I was expecting the deer to travel on was in the north end of the ditch. Nearly any deer travelling east to west or vice versa, will pass by here to avoid the steep drop off. A few minutes passed and the doe decided to make her way to the east using that trail. The buck soon followed and stopped right in front of me with his head behind a big oak. The rest is history. It wasn't the booner that my dad had seen. That big typical 12 is still hopefully running around! I shot him with a 56# TallTines, 400 axis and woodsman head.
What a beauty!
Awesome!!
Super buck !!!
Brian,
I think I've seen that photo before....what an all around great looking deer. Great photo to, especially with those Fall colors.
I'm getting the itch to. Today I started putting some arrows together for this Fall. MFX 400's with Woodsmans.
Thats good combo Mike. You gonna be at the fall festival?
Beautiful buck...congrats!
Great buck!
Nope, that weekend in August is usually a bad one for me to get away.....it's a bummer for me.
Get ahold of me if your travels ever bring ya through the area.....
Brian, did you use the same bow you made to kill the grizzly? Mike
Same riser Mike, but a lighter set of limbs.
Brian, If I'm not mistaken, you shot another great buck last year?
Brian, great buck and story! I believe you sent me a picture before but I never heard how you took him.
Very cool Brian. You are a great hunter no doubt.
T.J.
Brian, Thanks for starting on my bow so soon after I ordered it. I can't wait to see the Zircote/bubinga combination and feel the resitance at full draw! Ha! Those highly figure water fall bubinga veneers should look great. I hope you get your website going so other folks can see and try-out one of your TallTines bows.
Beeyootiful!
I'm finalizing my order for the next set of TallTine twins on Wed...SWEET bows and you can see they work well!
its a beauty for sure
Way to go Brian
My Talltines will be in the mail today! I hope it has the same medicine that Brian's has :-)
Biggie- Please post some pics if you get a chance. I think that is the first 64" recurve Brian has made on his new form. I ordered a 64" as well.
Yes Biggie, I'd luv to see some pix bud
Brian's a good man, and an assassin on the animals. And now making his own bows for sale. The guy's got it all. :)

I am glad someone asked, I as wondering about the story myself. I always enjoy it when a hunter takes the time to make a kill picture a work of art as yours is. Great buck and beautiful photography. Might even have to give one of those bows a try.
Nice looking animal Brian!
Good luck with the antelope.
CK
Very nice!
I placed an order for one of Brian's bows today. A great guy to deal with, 60" 72# @ 28 Lacewood riser with tulipwood limbs. Can't wait!
Bryce: Yep...good man; assassin on game; builds his own bows; even does his own taxidermy work; has a pretty wife too. We're supposed to go to dinner there tomorrow night. We'll see if he (or she) can cook too. BW
Brian has his ducks in a row better than any "30 something" guy I've ever known. The man is a good shot, great bowhunter, makes beautiful bows, beautiful children, he's a great taxidermist and super guy. I'm still waiting for the indoors trail camera pictures of his wife though....
Who's the tallest among ya'll?
Man, I wish I could have seen what that said before the edit...
Are we supposed to use judo points on the Crappies or are they so big we need one of those $30 elephant stropped single bevel broadheads???
Tremendous deer Brian!!
SteveO, I think a spinning rod and jig will suffice.
Gene, you'll just have to wait until you get there to see the pics!
Brian, I have to tell you the truth sooner or later. I can't hold back any longer....I'm your real father.
If thats the case, I want 001 and I also want to go put up some treestands next weekend....Pa!
Brian - you are too nice of a guy to be sired by the likes of Gene. Heard about these new bows- good luck with 'em. Don't forget who's spare bow saved the day in Africa a couple years ago! Guess you don't wanna buy it anymore? If Barry is coming to dinner- remember one thing- he is into quantity, not quality.
Hey is there a link to a pic of Brian's buck?
Sparky,
The pic is in the top rh corner of every page here...can't miss it :D
Ooops I didnt scroll over no wonder I didnt see it Thanks Steve O Lol.... very nice unique lookin buck!
Great deer! Congratulations! :bigsmyl:
He's a fair bowyer too...

We caught a mess of fish Wednesday afternoon and had a fish-fry that night. The man can cook too. Excellent. bw
Biggie,
Let us know how you like it once you start shooting it. I've got my 2nd matching RH/LH pair ordered now.
My order is in. A 64" with same bubinga veneers like Biggie's, but bubinga and zircote riser with zircote wedge.
Brian was the guest speaker at our IBA fall festival last night he has experience beyond his years his bows are a work of art Brian's a very talented individual.
Mine is going to have some of that stuff in it too, but I have to keep that under wraps as I never know when the Chimaster is going to look at any of this and then he won't be surprised when it is done :goldtooth:
