Title: New Marriah Thermal
Post by: WildmanSC on August 01, 2009, 07:30:00 PM
I just received my new Marriah Thermal last Saturday.  I haven't been able to take pics until today, so I haven't said anything about it in passing until I could post pics.

The riser is Ziricote and Bocote, and I'm not sure what the accent wood is.  The limbs are Yew with Ziricote over Bocote limb bolt pads and Bocote wedges.  The bow came out at 60" and 46#@28".  It is a very quick and very quiet shooting bow.

I own three Marriah Thermal T/D recurves and have been shooting them since 1997. It's the only bow I need or will ever need. Ric does an excellent job and produces a quality bow. Keep in mind that his Chinook longbows are also excellent bows and well worth the money.

Thanks folks.  Ric built one for me before that was a little fancier due to the accents he used.  But, I think this one is better looking because of the woods in the riser and the limbs.  And the 46# draw weight is friendlier to my shoulder than the 53# of the first bow.  For sure, Ric makes a sweet shooting bow.

Claudia,

Thanks!  As you well know, the pics don't do the bow justice.

Pat,

Thanks!  Yes, Ric is quite the artisan.  His bows are great shooters to boot.

I've sold one recurve and I think I have another sold to make room for the Thermal.

For the prices he charges for his bows and the options he offers, Ric builds a fantastic bow at a very reasonable cost.  Features that others charge extras for, like second wood and accent stripes in riser, Yew laminations, clear glass, etc, are all included in Ric's basic price, for example, $595 for the Thermal.

JL,

I've seen your Thermal in the Webshots assortment of bows Ric has built.  Unfortunately, the person who used to do his checkering is only doing gun stock work nowadays and it is no longer an option, or I would have it.  Your bow is a great looking bow, too.

Thanks!

Bill

Below is a link I found in a search of TG that shows a good selection of bows that Ric has built.  JL's Thermal is included, especially closeup views of the checkering on his bow.

Select the standard accents option to see a good selection of bows.  You can also check out Marriah Thermal 1 and Marriah Thermal 2 as well as the Marriah Chinook selection to see a good mix of bows with a good variety of wood combinations.

I took my Thermal to The Archery Shop today to shoot.  As ever, it was a pleasure to shoot.  I even shot it through the chrony and had a 5 shot average of 171 fps with fingers, 3 under.  That is not bad for a 46# bow shooting 504 gr arrows.  I LOVE my Thermal!!    :)    :D    :biglaugh:

Ric made me a Chinook with a Shedua riser and black walnut limbs for me a few years back. He inserted two of my elk ivories in the riser (and wouldn't take any extra $ for it!). I also had the knife made to go with it. It's a beautiful combo.

He's truly a 1st class bowyer and more importantly, 1st class person. I'd recommend him to anyone.

I forgot to mention that I put a new bow on the string Saturday before shooting it.  CJC built a 6 strand 450+ flemish string for me with Halo serving.  It is a sweet and quiet shooting string and I haven't even put any silencers on it yet.

I just ordered a new set of Antler Limb Bolts from sticshooter to dress up my Thermal a bit.  Frank does beautiful work and I always like to get a set of his limb bolts when I get a new bow.  That is particularly so when I get one I plan on holding onto.
