My husband, Jack, aka BossDog, which incidentally came from the name of our half-mastiff 95# of personal protection, Boss, died July 1st after a long battle with COPD. He was a proud firefighter 37 years before he retired about 12 years ago, long before the protective gear and breathing apparatus today's brave men and women wear.
I wanted to tell you how much he enjoyed this forum. He loved the camaraderie, the kindness and good will which was so prevalent here, unlike many forums. He posted occasionally, but he read it almost every day, and often referred to the information he got here. He loved the sport of archery and was both a hunter and a target shooter. The cover of the first issue of Primitive Archery pictured the first bow he ever built along with an arrow and flint arrowhead of his making. As his health failed, he could shoot less and less, but about an hour before he went to the hospital for the last time, he was on the front porch shooting his bow. He left it strung when he came in too weak and ill to unstring it.
I wanted to tell you all how much pleasure he derived from this forum these last few years. Thank you all. He told us on his last lucid day that he'd always wondered about the dinosaurs and that he was going to ask God about them very soon. We know he did and that he is at peace at last, and so are we.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Been doing the fire thing for 13 years now. Lotta of the older crew seem to be handling chronic lung problems - due to a lack of PPE that we have now.
Nothing but the deepest respect for your husband and for you.
-
Been a firefighter for the better part of 30 yrs (Vol. Dept.) I fought for years to get PPE, as seeing what was happening with the older members. We got it, and now our young crews are better equipped.
May the Great Spirit wrap you and yours in His protective Hands, and give you peace, love and hope.
Prayers sent skyward on an Arrow of Love.

I only had the pleasure of knowing Jack for a couple years but you'll be hard pressed to find a better man who lived life to it's fullest.
A book could be written about the adventures of Jack Holder and his best friend Joe Mathews, if I can accomplish half of what Jack did I'll feel very blessed.
The memorial for Jack was a real celebration of his life as it should've been, lots of laughs and smiles, just as Jack would want it.
Gone but never forgotten, I'll miss you Jack.

Ditto on LUCKY MAN's post.
Jack was the MAN!
Ole Jack lived life to it's fullest. He definitly skidded into Heaven with all four wheels spinning,, slinging riverbottom gumbo mud everywhere! LOL!
I hope I live life with just half of what Jack has done in his time here.
God Bless.

never knew the man but i liked him....bless you and yours, may the sun shine upon you.

I too want to know about the dinosaurs.
Brave men are the most difficult to lose, for they are the ones who made the difficulties in life easier. A firefighter is certainly one who can speak volumes about bravery.
Thanks for posting.

Thank you for the honor you do us by telling us your family's story. It's a shame to lose a good man, but an honor to know that in some small way we were a part of his life.
As you mourn him, smile when you can, cry when you need to and celebrate the time you had with him as your spirits permit.

When I posted this, I had no idea the response it would bring. Your kind comments, prayers and best wishes are appreciated and cherished. Jack lived life to the fullest, as those of you who knew him personally are aware. The world was a better place -- and certainly a more interesting place -- because of him.
Again, thank you all for this forum he enjoyed so much and God bless and keep each of you.
