Title: What's a Good Low Cost Carbon Arrow?
Post by: Nala on July 31, 2009, 04:30:00 AM
Hey all,

Would like some suggestions on what are some good, low cost carbon arrows to try.  Right now I am using the Epic carbon.

I have used the Red Head Carbon Fury and didn't have much luck with them.

What have you found to be a good carbon for not a lot of money?

Thanks for the time.

I have very limited experience with a lot of arrows because I don't have problems with carbons.  I find one in the correct spine and it works well.  I shoot Gold tips out of my longbow and Beman ICS hunters out of my compound.  I have no complaints out of either but I do think the Gold tip is a little tougher.  In My opinion traditional shooters are hard on arrows and expect a lot from them.  I have never tried the carbon express but from reading on here I would think they would be just fine also.  What was the problem with the ones you tried? Because a lot of people on here put a aluminum collar on the front and back and that should really make them tough.

I sell more easton powerflight shafts than any other brand. They seem to work well and are about one of the lowest cost to a archer. They are +- .006 as measured over a 30 inch span. I myself are even using these for 3D and hunting.

Easton Power flights are good and they are 5/16's diameter so you can get brass inserts for them(I'm pretty sure).Easton Excels are good too,but they are an oddball diameter and you won't be able to get Brass inserts for them.

GT35/55 edpedition hunters are decent too,but they're not US made so I'll be going with powerflights next time.

I have used the Ventures for a few years with no poblems.I like the Beman Bowhunters now.Good arrows at low cost.I prefer the smooth black finish over the wood grain finish on arrows and don't want a realy heavy shaft anyway.

I've been happy with the CX Predators from braveheart archery. They have some decent weight and fly like darts.

Beman ICS Bowhunters (formerly Ventures & Hawks) and Easton Powerflights. They're the same shaft and an excellent value.

Best of all, they're very consistent in spine -- much more consistent than a lot of other carbons I've checked.

I have some CX Rebels that have been great I still plan on hunting with my CX Heritages because they are a little bit heavier but the Rebels are great arrows also.

I've been the route of RedHead carbons.... they were the cheapest I've found but I've since shattered each one.  I think I got exactly what I paid for them.
Since then, I've gone with the blems because they're the best for the cost.  I also have trouble finding the blemishes most of the time and that doesn't really bother me anyways. (They'll get dinged up pretty fast anyways!)

Hope this helps

Beman ICS Bow hunter are great for the price.  I just got some 5575 GT trad blems and they are good arrows for a low cost if you want trad looking arrows;  I also got them in 3555, but thay are on the weak side.

But there were extenuating circumstances

Carbon Express Rebels, I have bought from a couple of places and got some great prices just by doing an internet search.  They are durable and have good weight (which was my reason for trying them in the first place),somewhere around 10-11 gpi depending on the spine you get.

Basically a 30" shaft with a 100 grain brass insert and a 125 grain field point comes in around 525 (+/-) grains. Not too shabby for a bare shaft.

I was content with the CX Rebel Hunters until I tried the Beman ICS Bowhunters.  A heck of a shaft for the money, they've easily replaced my GoldTips and I won't be looking back.

I've had good luck out of the Blackhawk Vapors for goofing around, and the Gold Tip blems for hunting.  Got both from Big Jim at a GREAT price.

I'm loving the Easton powerflights as well.I put 100 gn inserts in them and they fly like darts out of my PMAX 48#@27.5 ". The weight is at approx. 510-515 grns with 150 gn points
