My buddy started to make me a self bow a while ago and recently sent it to me to finish.I have a bit of shaping and sanding to do than I have to back it.
The butcher that lives down the street says he'll save the legs from all the moose he processes this year but I'm not sure how to go about removing and drying it.Sometime ago I was reading a thread about this and there was a link to a site where a man was removing and drying elk sinew but that is all I can remember.Also does the amount of sinew help to determine the wieght? Thanks
The leg sinew is easy to remove when you see it you will know what to do. I tie it in bundles and hang in my shop. let it dry all the way before you pound it for separation.The sinew will be dry when hard.
The amount of sinew will add weight to the bow and some draw weight be careful not to add to much sinew to the bow it will slow down the limes you will have to check the tiller after it drys.
work down to the hoof and getas much of the split as you canand remove the sheath around it they dry amber in color i just set the up in the manshed for a couple months laying flat . to much is a bad thing get then in nice little bundles and glue them smooth no clumpy
And keep it away from the dog!
