Dtala, they are just for show (for now) as I get better then I'll put some into action.  Most of them are around an 1inch long maybe a little longer, but the base is almost like a wedge shape, with it getting to thick to fit into my grooves.

If you wait until the last thing to thin the base, you almost always lose too much length to make them worthwhile. At least here in OK, they must be at least 1.5" long to be legal, you may check that for SC.

When making your own, make sure to make the bulb end of the flake into the point. That will help with thinning the base early on.

fishman, I don't knap heads, I bought a dozen just for display arras a while back and haven't been able to use them.  I just need them flatter through the middle so they'll fit in the shaft.

I don't think you'll have much luck with those.  Knappers call those "pliers" point, as it look like someone made them by crunching the edges of a thick flake with pliers until they got the general shape of a point.  Usually pretty low-grade stone, too.  Only thing I can suggest is to try grinding down the hafting area with a grinding wheel.
