Title: Tabs
Post by: xtrema312 on July 29, 2009, 09:54:00 PM
I am looking for a new tab to try.  I like my BW super leather for padding, but the finger guard flaps don't protect my index finger enough.  I like the strap better than the tabs with the finger hole.  I also don't care for the split middle and ring finger on the tab because it tends to curl up different one to the next and make it harder to get on the sting quick.

I have a kantpinch and it is good for protecting the index finger with the spacer.  It is calf hair and shoots to the same point as the BW tab.  However, it is not as thick and harder on the fingers.  I don't like the finger hole that much, but if it had the padding I would be ok with it.

I have a Neet.  It is only two layer, but better on the fingers than the kantpinch.  Not as padded as the BW.  The odd thing is it shoots left for me from where I look.  The finger protection with the flaps and felt spacer work well.

I would like something with the padding of the BW super leather, but with a spacer.  I am thinking about the Batemen tab with spacer and cordovan face.  I don't know how thick it is and can't find one local to check out.  Anyone know how the BW tab compares to the Bateman?

Any other tab recommendations with good padding, finger protection and slick face?

I have the Batemans for a long time they work for me. Take care of them they will last a long time. The one in my pocket right now just came in from shooting is 5 years old.

I shoot a lot.

Try a super archery mitt, thick like a BW but more like a glove, but still a tab. Does that confuse you...lol. Really the Mitt is pretty good.

I cut my own out of vegetable tanned leather.  Traced the shape of a NEET split finger, but left the split out as I shoot three under.  I don't know if another tab would help my accuracy much, but I think it shoots great.  Still shooting the same one I started with, though I carry a spare in my stand bag. I have enough leather left in the 10" square piece I started with to make enough to last the rest of my life.

Try a saunders pak-tab. You can configure them any way you like, and they have the finger spacer.

Very interesting, thanks.  I am going to check into it more.  I like the idea.

To add to the saunders, they are cheap and last forever. Fsdiscount carries them.

I'm with maineac.
I just recently started designing and cutting my own. Just hit a local leather shop, and they'll usually have tons of scrap pieces for very little $. You can customize to your own personal style of shooting.

The Bateman cordovan "no-pinch" tab I have is comparable in thickness to the BW tab, but is only 2 layers.  I don't have anything to really accurately measure the tab, but just holding the layers together and laying it on a ruler, I'm thinking about 3/32" thick.  The cordovan face is tough as nails and offers plenty of protection for me.  I actually like the velcro loop system on the BW tabs better, but the elastic loop on the Bateman is about as adjustable as it gets.  I haven't found anything I like better.  Hope that helps.

Curtis that helps a lot.  Thanks!

Who has the Bateman?  I would like to order one and get a few other odds and ends at the same time.  I found the Bateman site, but looks like they only have their products.  I don't see them on the # rivers site.

I use the Bateman but dont like the elastic. I take it off and use a peice of leather and o-ring and make it basicly like the old Neet ring tab that they quit making. Batemans are good, about the same thickness as the BW but I like them a lot better(even with the elastic).
Three rivers has them but calls them the Cordovan tab.

I got an old neet tab and added an extra layer of leather in between...

Tabs are extremely easy to make and that way u can customize it to what you need

Yup.  Item #5088X Cordovan Tab.  The medium size is plenty big for small to medium-handed folks like me.

I use the Bateman tabs as well.  The cordovan face just gets slicker with age.  I wear a size L or XL normal glove and use a Med tab.

Thanks for all the help.  I think I will get a Bateman ordered.

I use the Bateman's also.  I didn't like their elastic either, so now I order the tab with the leather finger loop.  The cordovan face is extremely durable.  I have to order directly from them since I can't find the tab I like on any other site.  I usually order a few extra finger spacers since the leather tab always outlasts the rubber spacers.
