Please note that as of now, on the FIRST DAY of each month, ALL classifieds topic ads that have a LAST POST DATE of 90 days or more will be automatically removed.
Please do continue to ADD the word SOLD to all topics where items have been sold, traded, or whatever. Those ads WILL REMAIN and be REMOVED as they AGE!
Thank you!
good idea bud
Should clean up some space. Excellent idea Rob.
Good idea. There's no reason anyone can't go back and ask a mod to delete an ad or edit it "sold".
Rather annoying when you find something you are interested in and it's been sold.
That should free up some moderator time. Notice how they got it fixed before another hunting season started.
:clapper:
Good idea!
Although I have to admit, I'm glad it wasn't like that previously, as I recently sold a bow from an ad that hadn't had a single response in more than 6 months! I had forgotten that I even listed the bow for sale, when out of the blue I got a PM from someone wanting to buy it. :biglaugh:
I think 90 days is very generous, Personally if there has been no traffic on it 30 days should be adequate.
If they want to keep it current, all they need to do is "TTT" it.
None the less good idea to clean it out.
Good. It`s long over due. Some people just don`t put "SOLD" on the item they sold, for what ever reason. You might want to bump it to 60 days instead of 90.Just my 2cents. ;)
ads are removed by checking the last post date - so if you want to keep an ad that's nearly 3 months old from being removed, post on it and it's good for another 3 months!

actually, our initial thoughts were 30 days - but for 'educational purposes' we feel it's safer to start off with 90 days, and amend as need be.
a good by-product of allowing completed ads to linger is that they can be referred to by both sellers and buyers, for both content and images. a 'paper trail' of sorts.
Thanks for the work on this Rob....as we agreed....30 days is too short(especially for some of the classifieds forums)....60 is perfect!!!...we are going 90 to play it safe. :p
Excellent.
Excellent...>>>>>------->!

QuoteIf you wish your ad to be removed, just edit the ad title to one word - SOLD - and we'll remove it for ya.
This wasn't working...
That's a great ideal but still would be nice if they would put SOLD in the title if it was sold so we know not to look at it.
Yes Mud...folks can still edit the title SOLD as always...that way they wont keep getting emails after its sold.
Yes it was Ron...but there are SO MANY Listings now that we have to go in a prune off the back end too often...this will take that chore away from us, and give us more time to do more positive things on the site.....is that OK with you? :D

yeah, it works - just very very very labor intensive ... and tedious.

yes, for sure, keep doing so! we say that in the text of the first post in this topic!
Great move. Just curious: is there any way to keep the old deleted adds from coming up when you search?

when we were removing ads/topics on a daily basis, we weren't resyncing the system - that process takes down trad gang for at least 2 hours - we'd do the resync perhaps twice a month at best.
with the new classifieds removal scenario, the resync will be done the same day, so you won't be seeing error messages that an ad/topic is 'not available'. this is another plus for doing the once a month ad/topic 'pruning'.
mowing is better than pruning :D :bigsmyl: :D GOT ELK?
