so I got a question I am hoping one of you might be able to answer... I am shooting a 54#@29 recurve ( I draw a true 29 inches), and a 29.5 inch AD Trad Lite. I am curious what grain point/insert weight (aluminum comes in at 24 grains and I also have the 100 grain brass inserts) you think may be the closest to perfect for bares shafting.
p.s. I spent most of the day bareshaft tuning so I am curius to see who comes closest to being right....how much did I end up with upfront insert and point included.... let the games begin,,,
100 grain insert, 145 grain tip. 245 total up front. How close am I?
I shoot 29.9" AD arrow out of a Morrison Shawnee recurve 54@27. My tip weight is 300(100 brass insert,200 grain field point). I would guess you need to be a little lighter so I'll guess around 250grains up front.

I can tell you I was surprised by the results.
214gn = 190tip/24gn insert
100 grain brass inserts and 125gr head.
Depends how cut to center the bow is. I'm venturing to say about that the 125gn point and aluminum insert might work out just perfect. 149gn.
Edit: Change my mind. I think I'm going to have to agree with Leatherneck. 250
i have a Griffin Longbow 48lbs @ 28" pull to 28.5" Arrows cut to 30.25" front of brassinsert to throat of nock. I've tried the following pointweights.
100gr.
125gr.
160gr.
175gr.
200gr.
One minute i can get them all to fly like darts, the next minute, TOTAL CRAP NO MATTER WHAT I DO. i'm about ready to jab my stupid guts out with wanna these stupid arrows. :-)
Tuning arrow shafts has been amongst the most frustating things I have ever tried. I'm not sure I did it righ the first time!
I'm down to three arrows and will soon be posting a similar question.
With so many variables like "center cut" vs. offset (which incidentally my bow is more offset than any other longbow I have ever seen...)it seems like to some degree we are on our own!

Watching this one with extreme interest. Been playing with some ADlites myself of late, and shooting them with different bows. Seems to be quite a difference in my experience as well.
Nor Cal- I agree with your sentiments- it sure is frustrating! Guess like any steep learning curve, once you get the hang of it then you are smooth sailing. Just wish there was more consistency of performance in order to judge what I am actually doing- right or wrong!
ok here it is...175 grain tip and 24 grain insert for just short of 200 upfront. I will be honest I was surprised as I thought for sure I would need more weight. These fly like absolute darts out of my Brack recurve.

The AD's are a very tunable shaft for a wide range of bow wts and draw lengths.
I shoot 29.5" Trad lites out of my 40# Howatt Hi-Speed with 230 grns up front drawing 28" and get great flight.
