Title: Thoughts on Flat bows
Post by: Dave Thaxton on July 24, 2009, 09:59:00 AM
Can you guys give me some thoughts, both pro or con on flatbows? I mainly shoot/hunt recurves, I own and occasionaly shoot/hunt longbows, but I have this hankering   :bigsmyl:   for a flatbow. The problem is this. I know absolutely nothing about a flatbow but I have been    gawking at Bob's Kohannah site which is probably a bad move on my part. I have one of his Kurves and it is my go to bow without a doubt. His flatbow reached out and grabbed hold of me  :banghead:  . So......... please give me all the flatbow info you can to either persuade me or talk me out of this quandry.
Thanks,
Dave

I parted with my Kohannah flatbow awhile back and have been regretting it ever since.  I imagine there are other bowyers who make a great flatbow as well, but I have nothing but praise for the Kohannah flatbow.

You will definitely be happy with one of Bob's flatbows!

Basically a flatbow is a longbow with shorter and wider limbs,But with all the different bow designs these days the definition gets alittle blurred.I like flatbows,I have a Thunder Mt. Coyote flatbow. It is a sweet shooting bow,it has a semi-reverse handle with alittle more R/D.Shoots fast and smooth,it's a keeper. There are alot of good flatbows out there.I had a Kohannah Kurve my self,Bob makes a great bow at reasonable prices.I have shot his longbows and flatbows,I don't think you can go wrong with his flatbow.

A great many of today's "longbows" would be more accurately described as "flatbows".

It's like any other bow--if you like it, and can afford it, get it and enjoy it.

FWIW, they will usually shoot in the longbow class in a tournament.

The Dwyer Defiant is a great shooting flatbow.

I have 2 of Bobs bows and love them. They are among my keepers. My next bow from him will be his flat bow.

I've built selfbows for 20 years and through the years I've built about a dozzen or so flat bows for people or myself. No glass all wood.People that shoot flatbows really love them for some reason.
A flatbow is just shorter with wider limbs.Has far as I'm concerned your not giveing a thing up with a flatbow. As long as you know how to hunt you can kill with it.
Remember idnains lived by them for 10,000 years.
