Quick question, I want to see how some really HEAVY arrows fly out of my setup as I gear up for elk this year and was wondering, can I keep the same arrow (GT Hunter) and add about 350 grains to it or am I goin to need to switch to another shaft? I'm adding the weight with weight tubes and broadhead weight. Right now they are cut at 28.5 as my draw is 27 but I some that are still full length so I can cut them to whatever.

You can try it but without you telling us the # of your setup and the arrow spine little we can do but say try it.
I am shooting 285gr and 300gr up front with all my carbons and have had few issues. The spine of your shaft is lightened when you add weight up front. So it will depend on the shaft if they fly well.

My GTs are the 5575s.
I've used the 5575 Nugent arrows out of my 62# recurve by adding 5gpi tubes inside.
However, I now use the CX heritage shafts and use a brass insert + keep them a little longer---I get better flight; total weight for my setup is now 610 grains.
I shot the same Nugent arrows out of a 52# self-bow --but they were a tad stiff for it. not sure what you'd need for your poundage for sure.

Weight tubes won't affect your dynamic spine. Adding tip weight (BH weight) WILL. If you can cut them shorter, it "may" make up for the added tip weight. Bare shaft tuning will tell you. Pick your BH (make and weight) you wanna shoot and build your arrow backwards from there. You can only go so short with your current arrows....and if it's too weak (with your BH of choice on) you're done. You'll have to go with a stiffer spine.
How much weight you got up front? I shoot a setup close to what you are shooting and need between 250 and 300 grains to get the bare shafts streight ( GT 55/75 at 29.5)

I shoot Easton Axis ST's exclusively. I've never had a problem getting them to the right weight. For example, my elk set up is a 72 lb Brack Custom Quest shooting Axis ST 340's. They are cut about 30 1/2 inches long and have 100 gr brass inserts installed. On the end I have Grizzly El Grande 190's with 100 gr steel BH adapters. I shoot three 4 inch fletch. Total arrow weight is 690 grs.
I shoot 30 inch 55/75 with 275 up front for a total weight of 600 grains. I'm fine with that but coulg get 630 or 640 with the same setup and 55-75 trads instead. I shoot a 60 in bob lee take down 48 at 28. With your setup, start with the full length and put weight up front. GMMAT is right about weight tubes not affecting the spine and they rattle.
How much weight are you looking for? I have some 55/75 GT's full length, 100grn. brass inserts,40grn. internal hardwood footing, 125grn bh adapter 135 grn STOS, 2 inch 2217 external footing, total wt. of 745 grns. with 400grns. up front. I have put these arrows thru hell, (including several frontal impacts with rocks).They fly great out of my 60" super shrew #56@30
Just a point of note... from my experience, when using Axis or MFX carbon arrows specifically, adding weight tubes stiffens the spine. It has something to do with the thickness of the walls of the arrow.

I use 55-75 gold tips. 300grains up front full length 630grains. 55# recurve.
If your arrows are showing weak spine, you are not done. You can build out your side plate to make them work. I built 3 dozen tapered chundoo arrows this winter and then got some new limbs. They were ten pounds heavier than what I built the arrows for. I didn't want to put down the arrows so I used a hunk of grey tape folded up until I found out how far to build out the side plate. Then I put a piece of tubing under some velcro and glued it on. Works great and the arrows fly good even with broadheads. Gary
