Maybe someone else has done this and posted about it, but when I searched on "brass" I didn't find anything so I thought I'd share:
Last weekend I got the bright idea of adding strength and FOC weight to my ST Epic 600's by footing them with brass tubing. I found that the 5/16" diameter brass tubing you can get at a place like Hobbytown* slides quite nicely over these shafts! Best of all, the tubing weights 30 grains per inch of length, so you can cut the tubing length to get precisely the weight you want. For example, I cut mine two inches/60 grains long to yield arrows that were exactly 400 grains. So now I don't have to file down brass inserts to fit in my carbon shafts, plus I get added strength of the metal footing!

*Note: the hobby stores that carry silk flowers and such (i.e. Michaels, Hobby Lobby) don't carry a good selection of brass tubing. Go to a "man's" hobby store, or a specialty hardware store.
Now that is a good idea! How much play between the shaft and tubing?
There's very little, maybe ten thousandths of an inch. You will have to de-burr/bevel the ends of the tubing after you cut it or the shaft won't slip on.
To glue them on, I put my heat gun on LOW, and "painted" the two inches of shaft with the glue stick. Then I put the heat gun on HIGH and heated up the brass. Slid the shaft into the heated brass tube, dunked it in water, and it's finished!

It cost me $6.50 for three feet.
