I've been wanting to make a moving deer target for some time now. I've recently been thinking about using pvc pipe with steel rods in the middle of them and attached to wheels. The target could then be pulled by some one while someone else shoots. I will have to see if I can find the right configuration of joints to do this. It would have to have 4 place to attach the pipe. One up to support the target, one for the center support, and two for the axel.
Do you all have any thoughts on this? It would make for more realistic practice.

I read there was one at the Comptons this year - maybe someone looked at it there.
I would think it would be much easier to rig a 3D target to a 'little red wagon'.
I'll only give you this advise from experience it will make you better at moving targets but worse at ones standing still because you learn to rush your shot.We have some shoots around nc with em and they are fun and addictive but it takes a little while to regroup from em if you do it much.
I put one on a frame I built. It has big casters on the front and lawnmower tires (push mower) on the back. I pull it with a rope in the yard and it works great. My Bionic Buck is on the frame, however, I made the frame adjustable so you can put any target on it. Adjusts in seconds.
The frame is made 2 x 2 angle iron. It has two cold roll pegs you slip the target legs over, just like setting it up on the ground.
Been using it for years.

I used 1/4" cable hung inbetween trees, screwed eye hooks with pulleys on them and suspended on the cable. Screwed another eyehook to the front of the deer, tied some surgical tube (obtained from a hospitol supply co.)to the hook and the other end to a tree with the cable on it. Tied a string to the back of the target, and pulled, via another pully, until it was tight. Either put the string under my own foot and just moved it a tad or had one of the g-kids pull the string. Worked too good....broke dang arrows on trees, that dang cable(I know all the bad shot jokes), rocks, and anything else but that dang target, oh, that is until I hit it and the arrows bounced off the trees on its way to stopping....
We made our target stand out of scrap 2X4 material. Bought some cheap lawnmower wheels and a 1/2" axle from Lowes. Just drill holes in the center 2X4 for the metal legs of the deer to slide down in and you are good to go. Use a pull rope to pull it around from spot to spot or pull as a moving target. Just make sure ya got a long rope and have the puller stand behind a tree !!!

NoCams, I think I'm liking your idea. Sounds sturdier and easier than mine. And yes, I have definitely considered the safety of the "puller". That kind of accident would sure put a damper on things wouldn't it?!!!

The running deer targets that I saw at some clubs in the East all utilized 3D deer targets using rope and pulleys. They were slanted downward from one tree to another tree. In the middle of the shooting area a large piece of carpet or rug was suspened to stop the arrows that missed the target. The cord was strung to a third tree that was pulled from behind the shooters so that no one was exposed in front of the shooters. It was always cool shooting those targets. I have also seen a steel bionic deer with a cutout area where the kill zone would be. The idea was that if you did not hit the kill zone but hit the deer, then your arrow was a goner. The idea was that a clean miss was better than a bad hit.

He took in a old car and welded angle brackets on the frame then secured doubled up 1/2 sheets of plyboard to the side of the car. Yep, mounted a 3D deer to the side of that! I stopped by and he had his daughter run and drive it from around the side of the barn. You should have seen the look on her face! She was having a ball driving around the field! I about died laughing! Don't worry, Ken knows his stuff and he would never put his daughter in a dangerous situation. I think Jeff saw this "running deer" target Ken put together. Wish I had a pic of it. What a hoot! Last I saw it, he had it listed on fleabay. Not sure if it ever sold or not.

Gravity gets this bear moving pretty quickly down the line. Fun target for sure.

Get an old tire and tape a balloon inside or apiece of foam whatever, and have someone roll it for you. At the G.L.L.I. years ago, they had a wild boar hooked on a cable with eyebolts and attached to the front was a long piece of surgical tubing and slingshot it across the lawn, pretty neat, Good shootin, Steve
Here's a great idea...When you go to your next 3-D shoot wait till the fellas start picking up and putting away the decoys...Some will move fast and some slow... :goldtooth:
