Hey all,
I was on vacation this last week and was able to make it up to the North American Bear Center in Ely, MN. Just thought I would share with you some pics of a 700# monster bear. When they originally got this bear "Ted is his name" he weighed 900 Pounds.

Why is he that big, do you know? Is it just luck in the gene department, or is it to do with diet?
-
Dosn't look like he's missed too many meals.

Must be from down my way.LOL. every year I hear of or see at least one over 600 and 3 over 700 in the last few years. usually taken with dogs and guns. no baiting here. shame, some big ones to be had. DB

doughnut
s do that to me too!!!!

A friend of mine killed one in Colorado several years ago that weighed 475 pounds after it was gutted and skinned. If they live long enough and have a good food supply, they just get bigger and bigger. A hog will do the same thing. Anybody ever go to the county fair and see just how big some of them are.

Bears are awesome.
He is eating good, and living easy. I`m sure that has to help with his size.
Regardless of his environment, weights above 500 lbs have to have some influence from genetics.

Did they, by any chance, come from a UP MI bear farm ? There is one up there... Oswald's ?? maybe is the name, that have / had some really big bears. There was a huge forest fire in the area several sears ago and that place might have been impacted. Just curious.

I agree with batman - eastern NC is produces huge blackies on a regular basis. Ever year see 600 lbers. BUT woods so thick - can't bait at all - they are usually left to the hound hunters.
That bear been livin good that is for sure!

Bear rug H$ll, that there is a king size bed spread. :scared:
-
Both the 700 and 400 came from the same place, somewhere in wisconsin. Keep in mind that since the center got this bear he has LOST 200 pounds!
-
MINNYSODA have a bear season? :biglaugh:
-
Yup, but most of the bear up nort are going to be 200 or under!
-
What is it with Wisconsin and largesse? I mean, do the bears like fried twinkies too?
JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!
Just send him to Commifornia, we'll have him on soy latte - yoga regiment and watch those extra pounds melt away! LOL :jumper:
-
Did they say how old that bear is? The black bear I killed here in Alaska was 18 and probably ate salmon his whole life but was probably closer to 300-350.

Darn don't let Troy Gentry hear about that bear. He'll be "hunting" him for sure!
Bill Kissner, I have been to the state fair and seen some of those big hogs! Some were wearing spandax and hurt my eyes. Bears and people aren't that different! We keep on growing too if we just eat and sleep!
