Title: Screw-in Broadheads
Post by: ToxophilitePastor on July 18, 2009, 08:41:00 PM
I am moving to carbons and I need to buy some heavy (200-250gn) screw-in two blade broadheads. What are your suggestions. I would like broadheads that are affordable and easy to sharpen. Thanks!

I like ACE but they don't have screw-ins do they?

You can use any glue on with an adapter, your choice is unlimited. You can mix different broadhead weights and adapter weights to come up with the the right combo for your setup.

We have several Tuskers in that weight, they are affordable but I wouldn't call them easy to sharpen.    "[dntthnk]"

You might look at Muzzy Phantoms.

50 and 100 gr. brass inserts open up even more possibilities for using lighter BH's and field points that are easier to get local.  I have been using 100 gr. brass and 125 gr. points for 225 on the front.

I use 50gr brass inserts with 115 grain Zwickey heads and a 5/16 alu. insert this weighs in at 185 grains. I like the Zwickey heads because they are relatively inexpensive easy to sharpen and best of all they work. I shoot 46 pounds and like the four blades better than the two, the blood trail from a two blade does not compare to that of the four blade heads.

I have my 160 grn. Ace Standards glued onto 100 grn screw in adapters. I used aluminums to do the mounting and balancing since they are not as heat sensitive as the carbons. They are on nice and true now.

I got the stuff from Braveheart Archery. They have plenty to choose from and are fast in the mail.

I did the same as Khardrunner with my 160gr aces. I just used 42gr adapters for a total of about 220 with footings and inserts.

I use 160 Magnus 1's with 100 grain steel adaptor, also 135 grain Magnus 1 with 100 grain steel adaptor.  Both work excellent, but there are a lot of combinations out there.

Oh, I also add the 125 grain insert to my wide Pearson Deadheads... Haven't shot anything with one of those....yet!

magnus has some very nice screw in heads and if you use a KME sharpener, WOW!

there are also steel screw in adapters available that you can "mix-'n'-match" for any weight you wish.
