Title: Online newsletters for trad organizations
Post by: gregg dudley on July 17, 2009, 10:38:00 PM
What clubs have online newsletters?

What software are you using to make the newsletter more viewable and access friendly?

TBOF  has moved towards an online newsletter and we are trying to see what is available to help this mission.

Thanks,

Gregg

Gregg,

Idaho Traditional Bowhunters has past newsletters posted on the web site and has an option for members to receive a printed or electronic (email) newsletter sent when they publish.

The electronic and online newsletter is a .pdf file, viewable with Adobe Acrobat.  An alternative to Adobe Acrobat and also free, is Foxit Reader.  The Foxit is upgradeable to a writer version for a registration fee.

Open Office, also free, will convert text to .pdf files for publishing electronic newsletters but I have not tried it for other than text.  I am not sure how photos would work but they may.

If the newsletter is just on the web site, any web publishing software should be able to write HTML for browsers to see.

Tennessee Traditional Archery Society has our newsletter on line.  I wish I could tell you all the technical answers to you questions but I don't know what software we use.  Send me you email and I'll forward you a copy of it and you can check it out.

Thanks, guys!

Some good information here.

I will forward it all to our folks and see what we can do with it all.  I use up all my knowledge when I post on this site!   ;)

Thanks again for all of your information.  THe TBOF newsletter is now available online.  This months newsletter is light on hunting content, but has some good information in it.

We need to make a more readily available link/buttion for our newsletter, we need to make the process where it doesn't require the download time this does and we need to update other areas of our site as well, but I think we are moving in the right direction.

YOu can see our first attempt by:

TO access, go to tbof.org

Click on "enter tbof"

Click on "newsletter"  (last bullet on right)

Be patient!  It looks like nothing is happening, but it is downloading.  It will take about 2-3 minutes to download.

You can either print the newsletter out or view it on the screen.

If you are viewing online, I have found it best to enlarge or maximize the window (click on the square located at the top right hand corner of the newsletter window.)

I also set the viewing size at somewhere between 48% and 52% to be able to see two pages at a time which makes it feel more like a magazine layout.

This is our first attempt at offering the newsletter in this format.  As you will recall, we moved to this format based on member input which expressed a desire to eliminate a separate membership fee and reduce overall costs associated with participation.

I would like to thank Pam and Joni for working to get this online.  If you have any suggestions, please email me directly.

Regards,

Gregg

Gregg,

Looks like ya'll did a fine job on the newsletter.  The layout looked good and the font was very easy to read - didn't even need my cheaters!

Best wishes on the new venture and to TBOF.
