Title: Zebra Pronghorn
Post by: artifaker1 on July 15, 2009, 10:42:00 PM
I picked up this Bow last Feb. and I've wanted to post it; mainly for Herb Meland, who is a mighty fine bowyer indeed. It is all Zebra with action Boo cores 62 inches and 53lbs @ 28 and very smooth and fast. I shoot 32 inch 340s with 300 grains up front off of it at a 29 inch draw with the broom handle riser. I love it.
And in case you wondered; these shots were taken at the Natrona County archery range on Casper Mt, south of Casper. It is a nice range with two 3D loops and a normal spot target range. Just don't miss cause there's rocks everywhere. Great place to a acclimate it is right under 8000'.

Josh, I'm pretty sure that this bow has a working layer of Zebra on the back and the belly, not just veneers. Zebra is actually a pretty good limb wood.

That is a *nice* TD Pronghorn AF1!

I hope to get a TD in the future when I finally get the opportunity to travel for some PORK.

Have a great 2009 hunting season!

Shoot straight, Shinken

If it does than they are nice lams...if not they are nice veneers.

Either way WOW is the grain cool!

Thanks to everyone for praise of Herbs' bow. I was lucky for me to get this at Bob's Archery; but it will always be a bow by Herb Meland.
Felix; I've got a 65 lb pronghorn with Bob limbs that I carry in the sage. This one is still too nice for that. .
Broketooth; I've had seven pronghorns and only one that I didn't care for too much. The main thing that hooks you on these is the absence of hand shock and great cast. But I especially like how well tillered the limbs are and how the limbs release in perfect time. I have other bows like that too, not to imply that pronghorns are the best, but they are a great value for sure.

Randy; thanks and that is a fine elk you bagged.

PaulWa I think they told me at Bob's that this one had Actionboo cores, and I'm still going with the zebra as a working lamination on this bow. Heck I can see it.
Bow Zen I beat you and several others to it. I picked it out over several other bows including a foam core (yes Herb does have these) and a used Feret IV. I really thought this bow was performing better. And it looks fantastic.

That's a beautiful bow! I'm on the waiting list for another set of limbs for mine, and I hope to have them before the season.

Having Herb make me a new one with the same specification- 62" 53# at 28". The bow will be
dark.... Zircote riser with black glass and stained bamboo limbs. One more month to go!!

I have released many arrows from my Pronghorn on the Casper mountain range. I always take my "seconds" to walk that course. Often I don't have to bring them back.   ;)
My favorite Pronghorn is a 60" Osage with impregnated Hickory handle. I just love it.
Good shooting.

Super looking bow. Don't lay it down when hunting you'll have a hard time finding it. Natural camo is hard to beat.

Wow, this thing is still going! Thanks again and I would like to say that you can get some idea from the pics but this bow is something in person.
PrarrieDog; It does'nt get much better than Wyoming and a bow. I use to live in Casper, in fact I used to live over by Crimson Dawn (for others that is on Casper MT) for a short time.
