Post by: FeelTheHunt on July 14, 2009, 09:12:00 PM
Hey guys, i have always been a compund bow hunter, but i came across an old recurve in my barn,i didnt know anything about it until i looked it up and it happened to be a kodiak magnum, the serial number is 2J95 its 52'' and 45#, im in the process of refinishing it and im wondering what size sting it needs, and some background info on the bow, is it an ok recurve?  If not ill buy a different one, but its in good shape and im not ssure if its capable of killing a deer, anyone willing to answer my questions would be a huge help, godbless, thanks

Check out Rainemans strings below ,he makes some nice strings, yes that bow will put deer in the freezer. It sounds like a pre-1965 curved feature stripe bow...very nice and desirable.
If you post a picture or let us know the glass color and tip color the guys may pin point the year 1961-64

The KM is a great little bow and very popular, making it an ideal bow for tree stands and blinds.

The actual string length should be 48" should be made of Dacron B-50 and not any of the no stretch fastflight type stings. Set the brace around 8" and twist up until it shoots the best and quietest which will probably be 8.5-9".

Give us a pic and we may be able to determine the year.  It was first introduced in 1961 and this sounds like an older, more desirable KM.

I have one of each, a '61 and a '62, and they are great shooting little bows. I prefer the '62 cause she's prettier.

One in excellent and original condition can bring around $250, however you say you are refinishing it. If it's still sound and you do a good job, expect the value to be $125-200. (That's my opinion, of course.)

For bows of that weight, I prefer the 1916 and 2114 aluminum arrows.

1916 should do the trick, depending on your draw.
You will find this to be a quick little bow that is capable of sending a sharp broadhead through a Pennsylvania deer if you do your part.

An excellent tutorial.  Also gives sources for decals, lettering, arrow rests, etc.

Bow Doc is the MAN!!, does excellent work.  If you have questions, he'll help you out.
