Title: Fred Bear Black Bear
Post by: Double A on July 13, 2009, 09:59:00 AM
hey gang, i picked up a Bear Black Bear at a flea market this weekend, payed 67 bucks for it, no clue if that was a good deal or no.  doesn't look like it was ever strung, still has the sticker on it telling which accessories are compatible.  Black face on it, looks like maple riser.  no twists or cracks at all, barely a scratch anywhere.  little corrosion on the fitting where the stablizer would go, but i got that off already. serial number is KL46940.
60" @ 45lbs.  whats this bow worth?

You did very well! The Black Bear is an excellent shooting bow with little stack. I have one and my daughter also has one. Sometimes the maple risers are rather plain, but some are nicely figured. While they are not as sought after as some of the Bear bows, they will generally bring $125 to $150 for a nice one. I bought mine as a fishing/knock around bow for $65 plus shipping. It has the ugly turquoise laminations and some nicks and stress lines. I did a rattle can camo on the glass (the riser was too pretty...walnut).

Bottom line...you got a heck of a deal on a fine bow. If you are hunting whitetails, it's all you will ever really need.

Post this over on the history and collecting forum with a picture and you will get a better response. I believe it is a 70's bow with that serial number and for $67 you got a good deal and a nice shooter.
