Title: Arrow moccasin/Mukluk questions
Post by: Mojostick on July 12, 2009, 10:25:00 AM
I'm going to invest in some nicer quality footwear.

I'm set on boots for very cold/snow that the Michigan late season can bring. The Cabela's Predator Pac Boot is fantastic for when the Michigan weather dips well below freezing. I have sweaty feet and these are the best bitter cold boots I've ever worn. And I've tried all the big name pacs, have the best socks, switched socks, tried powder, ect. With these boots, I could wear a thing dress sock in 10 degree temps and my feet won't get cold.

For new warm weather boots, I've decided on Danner Jackal's. I have other Danner's and am very impressed with the quality and fit.

But I'm also looking for some new footwear for the in between temps that make up late October and November. The high 30's thru 50 degree's.
The Fall in west Michigan is often wet. We get a lot of light "lake effect" passing rain or rain mixed with snow showers.
This makes for lots of wet leaves and a leather bottom moc is not what I'm looking for.

However, I like the look of the Arrow Mukluk...

My questions are, does anyone have this boot? Opinions? Is this a serious cold weather boot? Will this boot be too warm if 40-50 degree's? Comfortable? Other thoughts?

One other question is, is there a mid-weight Danner boot with a less aggressive sole, more like the Jackal, if this Arrow isn't what I want?

Thanks.

I have knee-high mocassins but wear heavier boots mostly here in Texas. Just got some lite-weight Danners I really like. Worn a few times already in our triple-digit heat & they aren't heavy or hot. My mocassins don't breathe & get real hot quick. They're quiet though.

Mojo,

Nothing beats natural man, they breath and keep you warm. Call them and ask...i know you know that....Also have you thought about Sleeping indian over boots?

Website says "completly piled lined", might be a touch too warm for the temps you mentioned, maybe they would or do make a model without the pile lining??

I've stopped by the Arrow Moc shop and checked out all his mocs.  I think the mukluk would be too warm in the 40-50 range.  These aren't your flimsy mocs... the leather in these is thick and will turn the heaviest thorn (I need a mallet to drive my stitching awl through this stuff)

He will make them unlined, or make the lace boot with the crepe sole.  I've been wearing my double sole lace boots constantly for the last 3 years now and still love them.  When I finally wear out the sole and need to get them resoled I'll probably order a pair of the mukluks  ;)
