Any info on hunting public land in the Kenora,Ontario area would be appreciated. Thanks, Jr.
I dont have any info on public land in the area, but I fish about an hour SE of there in a town called Ignace. What are you hunting?
I have lots of friends from Michigan that have rifle hunted the area. It is becoming more and more popular with hunters every season they say.
I have one good bow hunter friend that has spent several weeks bow hunting deer on Crown Land prior to the rifle opener in the last few years. It is big woods hunting and although there are some nice bucks taken each year there the deer are somewhat scattered and hard to pattern. A common tactic in the area is baiting deer which my friend doesn't use.
In Ontario U.S. citizens have to go through an outfitter to hunt on Crown land. I have been to Sioux Lookout (north of there)eight times bear hunting. We go through a guide, but all he does is establish the baits. We skin our own bears. It's a wonderful experience. I have seen multiple bears the last four trips. The bear population is very high since they no longer allow Spring hunting. I a headed back September 4 through the eleventh this year. Our guide charges $1200 per hunter for a seven day hunt. We have two boats and a cabin on a quiet lake and hunt off of timber cutting roads in the forest. We're probably 150 miles NorthEast of Kenora.
I will be hunting whitetail, going with a couple guys that have hunted the area before, so we want be completely lost! Thanks for all the info. Jr.
