Title: Got my new bow yesterday, I'm in love
Post by: shortstroke 91 on July 09, 2009, 10:48:00 AM
It's a Samick Stingray #45 @ 28" and drawing to 29". Just over 1&1/4 pounds and smooth. It doesn't stack which surprised me since the fadeouts are 23" appart on a 58" bow. With bow hush and hush puppies installed on a dacron string it's just as quiet as my Tomahawk longbow and a ton faster than my Grizzly or T-hawk, both @ #45 and shoots the 480 grain arrows perfect. The only issue I'm having is hitting high, I'm not acustomed to the flat trajectory and the shelf is cut way low so it's close to the hand. It's not finished like a custom bow by any means but I couldn't be happier. (http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww217/shortstroke91/IMG_01791.jpg) (http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww217/shortstroke91/IMG_01801.jpg) (http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww217/shortstroke91/IMG_01831.jpg) (http://i721.photobucket.com/albums/ww217/shortstroke91/IMG_01821.jpg)I might add that although both of the groups were high, thats 1 field point and 1 Magnus from 25 yards 2 times.

I had one, and found it as you describe. Nice bow, but I traded it for something a bit heavier. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

Congrats!

I purchased one back in the spring.  I have been more than pleased with it.  I have shot many arrows through it.  It is only a 40#er but slings an arrow rather well.  You will be happy with it.

Similar to the BW TF and about $600 cheaper, I can't get over how fast and quiet she is. Don't have a name yet, how about some ideas.

Sweet looking bow!
Raise your nock point 1/8 inch at a time until it hits where you want it to.

Dig a hole about 8" deep and stand in it and you will be hitting the bullseye. Nice bow.

The Samick Stingray is a sleeper for sure...I haave sold about half a dozen in the last 3-4 months and all my customers are extremely pleased. One of my customers has a 30 inch draw so we set him up with a 40#'r....his arrows just scream out of his bow...quiet too!!

She only comes stock as far as I know. Opening weekend brought an end to my 3 year drought. 8pt @ 23 yards with a 550 grain arrow tipped with an old Razorhead that went through both lungs and glanced off a T-post 10 yards past him. He only went 40 yards and when he fell the "thump" sounded like someone dropped him from a rooftop. No pics as it was late and the rain was starting to come down but The bow performed perfectly.

I'll have to say, that is one nice looking bow, and from what I've read, seems to perform as well.

Bad news: after 20 or 30 arrows, lower limb has broken. Luckily my son didn't get hurt. Dacron string, 7,4" fistmelle. 27" draw lenght.
Maybe the fistmelle was too small, but... enough to brake the bow?? don't think so.
Now we have a nice broken Stingray.

I've an excelent Ron Pittsley's Predator Hunter, but the upper limb failed (only cosmetic) due to a tiny grain of sandpaper or dust inside the coat of varnish or lacquer. And a Predator Custom Classic of a friend of mine had a twisted limb after a not very hot afternoon inside his car.
Another archers have never had any problem with any bow in years. Maybe it is a question of good or bad luck.

I've got a right handed one identical to this one and they are for sure fast and quiet. I was surprised how confortable they are in the hand.
They don't have to be expensive customs to be great shooters. Don't get me wrong I like those too just can't afford them...lol...main thing is just shoot something even if it is an import.

Where did you buy it, they generally have a pretty good warranty.  By the way, in the past year I've heard of two Black Widows that had limbs blow, a Morrison that some issues, finish problems on seveal ACS bows...a Howatt Hatfield T/D that broke nearly in half.  Samick makes and sells thousands of bows and I would say they don't break any more often than any other.

I don't hear buy American when it comes to Carbon Express arrows or myriad other things; ChekMate;Border Bows; and all of the Asian, African and South American hardwoods that are used in the custom American made bows.  Samick buys a lot of American ash, elm, maple, and archery accessories, then these guys order an American bow with all imported hardwoods...go figure.

Call Samick...my guess is they will replace the bow.  I'll PM you another thought.

Well, I think I have to say to the forum the same that I've said to George D. Stout in a private message: I'm absolutely sure that Samick will replace the broken bow. And the salesman is a great spanish traditional archer and good friend, reliable man. I hope that in less than a month we'll have a replacement bow at home.
