Post by: yekrut on July 04, 2009, 08:56:00 PM
How do you get them out of a goldtip xt-hunter! Like if you want to put diffrent ones in ? Without ruining the arrow. Thanks

Put a field point on and heat it, hold your finger about 3/4" from the back of the insert, once it gets hot, pull the filed point and insert out - after a few you will have an idea of how long to heat it. I have no idea what it does to the shaft all I know is it works for me and have not had an issue yet. Make sure you pull straight out not rocking it.

There is another method I use first is to remove  the nock and get a drill bit that just fits inside of the shaft. And then whip the shaft towards the floor knocking out the insert from the backside.Wad up a blanket to catch the insert and bit when it comes flying out. Most of the time you can get them out without using any heat, which is what I prefer to do with carbon. But I have some that neither method worked without damaging the arrow shaft.

If yuo're going to use the heat method make sure you don't twist the insert, just pull straight out.

I put a 250 gr field point in it and heat the end of the field point with a torch.  Heat transfers to the insert and loosens the glue.  Pull the insert out don't twist.   Taken inserts out of a couple hundred arrows like that and haven't ever lost one.  But you do have to be careful that you don't overheat and damage a shaft becuase it is possible. dino
