I'm looking to buy some 75gr steel adaptors. Did they ever fix the problem with them breaking? If so who has the good ones?
Thanks for your help......
me too...
I've had break issuses w/ both 125gr & 75gr.
I have had no problems with the ones I've been using. I've mounted them in grizzlies and in field points.
I've been buying mine from Braveheart, as I know Tim was acutely aware of the situation and took steps to get "the good ones". I've not shot any brick walls, but haven't had any prob's with his product
My understanding was that the hollow inside the taper extended all the way down to where the shank met the back of the wide part of the taper and that was the weak point.
I thought that problem had been addressed but I bought some recently from a large supplier and that is exactly how they were built so I'm not using them.
I may have bought from the wrong supplier.
I should have said, those were not from Braveheart.
The 75gn from 3-Rivers are still very fragile (Sorry guys :( )
Kustom King carries the good ones.
Brave Heart has the good ones also. Very good shipping prices too for the small items.
The "good ones" are made by PDP. Unfortunately they've been behind on them for a while, I just sent the backorder update to the web guy. :help: We've not been able to get any more for several months.
This has been going on for a while, hopefully PDP will get it straightened out soon.
Guys,
Here's the facts.
3Rivers has been stocking PDP 75 grain adapters for sometime now. So those are suppost to be "the good ones". "The bad ones" that were claimed to be just fine by the manufacture were removed and replaced with PDP's many months ago. dino
if they are one blued steel "black ones" they are very week
the good ones where the bare steel (silver) and as far as i know have not been made for several months
both kustom king and 3 rivers do not have the good ones, not been able to get them.
wish they would get together and get a machine shop to make some descent ones.
these are the good ones
(http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h101/tradtusker/1066-73BroadheadAdptS.jpg)
they also have the taper down towards the threads that makes them alot stronger then the black ones.
Trad,
I just got off the phone with the manufacturer of those particular adapters and they are no longer being made and they won't consider making more of them either. I did ask. dino
PDP's aren't going to be made anymore? Oh man, that stinks! Looks like I will have to be very frugal with my modest collection.....
No Bob, PDP's are still being made and will continue to be made. The ones that TradTusker has posted there in the pic in the steel version are no longer being made. Different manufactures.
Thanks for the explanation. I have those heads too (bought from KK), didn't know who made them, and they are darn good. Any explanation why they aren't doing it anymore?
Not worth the machine time is the short answer to what I was told.
TradTusker, are those steel or aluminium
adapters you've pictured?
Steel....nickel-plated?
Man this is all a bugger to follow.
If I ever buy steel 75 grain adapters
and the weight adjustment hole is too deep,
they're going back for a refund.
they are steel, unplated, uncoated. Light to medium grey in color.....
That stinks. Do the 100gr or 50gr have the same problem?
and again..who can supply the good ones?
I have been using the black ones from Braveheart and 3 rivers and have not had any issues with them.
I throw in another two cents as apparently there is still some confusion on these.
The silver ones tradtusker posted look just like Magnus aluminum 7075 adapters, which are excellent adapters but are high grade aluminum. I don't know where tradtusker got those in steel, but I believe you'll find most steel adapters are much darker in color.
The only adapter I'm aware of that had any problems was an old run of 75's, I'd not be concerned about 100's or 125's of any make.
Thank you for all your inputs
the ones i have pictured are "Steel" unplated uncoated like Bob said, Not Aluminum
when i found out they where no longer being made i bought every one of them i could find in 125grs
the story i got (could be wrong correct me if i am)
was that kustom king had them made by a big machine shop, forget the name of the business. several other smaller archery businesses also got a supply from them, when kustom king tried to reorder from them they said they would only do it at a MUCH bigger minimum quantity and increase the price so they decided against it. thats the story as i understood it.
Forgive my feeble mind but ....... are these "the good ones"?

I believe those were the ones that, in the 75 grain weight, were breaking quite frequently.
Abowyer has 75 grain in grey steel , I bet they are good ones.
If the 100gr are good you could maybe take some off the length and get them down to 75gr.
