Title: Sitka Gear for Hot Weather?
Post by: mancole5 on July 01, 2009, 11:10:00 AM
Is there anyone with experience using Sitka in the Hot/Humid climate of Georgia. Their ascent pant and ascent jacket  boast to ideal for hot weather. Anyone have opinions?

Ryan, I just returned from the Bear Quest, where I hunted in a couple of different Sitka Gear Zip-T's....and I have to say that I was very satisfied with the comfort level in a very warm, humid environment.  Also worked well as a base layer under a heavier garment when it cooled off.  Another thing that was great was that I could wash things in the shower, wring it out, and it would be ready to wear in just a few hours.  Great stuff.

Sweet...I am really thinking of pulling the trigger on some this stuff. I just need some encouragement!

Go for it!

I have found the Core Layers from Sitka to be the best undergarment, period.  I have tried from Under Armor to wool and there were a LOT of choices in between.

I wear my core layers when training for hunts all summer long.  They keep you cool when it is hot!

The Ascent Series is the one I would choose for an outer garment for GA.  It will keep wicking the moisture off you.  As an added benefit, when it gets cooler and you want an extra layer, the 4 way stretch will still allow you flexibility.

I'm on the field test staff for Sitka and have been wearing and testing it since early in 2007.  They keep improving it and I have not been uncomfortable on a hunt since I started wearing it.

I know A&H Archery is now a dealer for the gear and is offering free shipping.  They are a fine sponsor of TradGang!   ;)

I second what Steve said. The core layer is universal and can be worn as the outer layer depending on temperature. Mike

i use it in south georgia and alabama.  The core top and ascent pant work great in the early season.  i stuff the vest and/or another layer in my pack for when it cools down.  i have some of the heavier layers when it dips down in the 30's.  i like it a lot.

I love the core layer for hot hunts.  My avatar here shows me in a core on a successful hunt in 80+ degree temps.  I also love the extra long front zip in some of the core shirts for extra venting.

Steve O, what Sitka "system" would you recommend for Michigan hunting? October thru mid November. Base layer's and outer layer's that are flexible enough to deal with our unpredictable Michigan weather. Have been looking at Sitka for the last couple of years but I'm have trouble breaking away from the tried and true Thermastat and fleece. Don't want to make that kind of investment unless I know what I'm getting. Don't know enough about it to make a good decision. Any advise would be appreciated.

Core top and bottom
Traverse top and bottom
90%Pant
Kelvin Vest
Celsius Bib and Jacket

These items have a lot of flexibility that would get you from 100 degrees down to 10!  The key being the Kelvin vest.  It is a new and VERY warm, but somewhat noisy garment meant to be worn under your coat for sure.  I sat all day in the high 20s last November with those items listed above not including the 90% pants and using the Celsius Vest, not the Kelvin.

I'd get the Ascent pants and a Celsius vest to round out the ensemble for any active hunting out west or when you only need the vest as your outer layer.   ;)

Yellow Dog...where were you two weekends ago?  We had a BUNCH of Sitka Gear at Compton!  Any time you want to see or try on anything, send me a note, we are not far from each other.  I have everything but the newest waterproof gear.

Thanks Steve. Ryan, didn't mean to direct your question from the "great south" to the "great white north" but I have the same questions about the stuff.
