I want to know what you prefer to shoot? Why do you prefer to shoot what you do?Do you switch from one bow to another throughout the year or stick with the old reliable? I plan to record this info and publish my numbers after 14 days time. Thank you for your opinions and look forward to reading your messages!
I prefer the recurve.
I've owned a few longbows, and I'm sure I'll get another one someday just to satify an itch. I just can't get used to the longbow grip and its totally my fault. I have shot a few LBs that had recurve grips and I like them just fine.
But, I'll stick with the recurve as my primary arrow slinger.
I have recurves, hybrid long bows and a more traditional style long bow. The recurves don't get shot anymore. I do shoot the hybrid long bows on occasion but the traditional style long bow is by far my favorite and is the bow in my hands most of the time.
I don't switch up during hunting season but I do shoot the hybrids once in awhile because I always take one of them as a backup when I camp out and hunt for a few days.
If it came down to only one it would be this style long bow. This is my Crow Creek Dalton. It feels right and I can shoot it very well.

I shoot a traditional longbow. I hung up the recurves over 20 years ago.
i started with a recurve, but now i shoot mostly my hybrid longbow. i still swap it up a little right now. but getting closer to hunting season i will shoot only the longbow. i do carry the recurve as back up.
i don't like a low straight grip so i shoot recurve mainly.
if i get around to making a self bow it will have a recurve style high wrist grip.
Hybrid Longbows for me. Have also owned a few recurves as well but prefer the Hybrid style Longbow. Currently shooting a Fire Fly TD and waiting on a Lewis Hollow to get built.
i prefer longbows with the straight grip and i only shoot bows i make myself now..........Rod
Yep, I shot them all weekly. I might lean towards the long bow but that is only on Wednesday. Recurves are nice and I like to shoot them also, but there is nothing wrong with the challenge of a self bow for killing at close distances. :banghead: I like them all.
Long bow all rhe way I used to shoot a recurve it was nice but nothing compared to the long bow their a little more forgiving which in most cases helps the shooter.
I like to play with them all, but when it gets seriously close to hunting season I choose one and stick with it for the season. My "go-to" bow is almost always a longbow.
I love 1 piece longbows cant stand takedown dont want any metal in my bows and love the straight grip ,Nothing looks more beautiful than the lines of a 1 piece bow.Self bows are sweet just cant shoot them well.IMOP witch doesnt mean much. :biglaugh:
I love the looks of a REAL longbow(HH style, straight grip, and D-shape) but can't shoot them worth a snot. Now the hybrids with a recurve style grip, reflex-deflex I can shoot a little better. I just hate to see a person pay good money on some beautiful woods and cover it up with a piece of leather. Thats one of the reasons I love my recurves.(not to mention i shoot them better)I like the ability to take it down for travel purposes. As well as the ability to change limbs. To each his own I guess.
Mike
First off, I love my Hills, real fun to shoot, great to hold, simple and refined.........but when I actually want to hit something I reach for my Saluki Turk. Short, quick and nasty.
love my Chek Mate Kings Pawn Deluxe
Longbow. Hybrid or traditional. My GN Fireball feels like I'm shaking hands with an old friend everytime I pick it up. It has shown me the definition of happiness, wanting what I already have. On a side note my next purchase will be a recurve simply because I don't have one.
I perfer recurves, but I have and shoot all three on occassion.
I shoot all 3 pretty often.I might hunt with two of them in the same day or shoot two classes at 3ds that allow it.I have never seen a bow I did not like so really can't break it down to one type. :) I do prefer longbows over recurves for hunting deer because of the sound however.
longbow for me! recurves are nice but I just cant get the hang of a recurve.however I know how I am an I can tell you that someday I will own a recurve again.
Recurve. Just because i watched bowhunting october whitetails when i was younger. Barry made me do it!!!
50/50 longbows & recurves for me. I've not hunted with my selfbow yet, but I aim to try this fall.
Self bow, give the critters a fair chance and enjoy the satisfaction of home made simple gear.
I only have a longbow, which puts me in a position where I can't decide what is best. Will let you know that I ordered a Saluki horsebow (recurve) though, so the plan is to own a few of each. When I have enough money, I'll be getting a hornbow and an english warbow too. So... I'm not gonna stick to one single type of bow! :archer:
I personaly prefer the recurve,I have nothing against any of them but I like the line's and feel of the curve!! Jason
I shoot em all but theres something about shootin a bow you made from a single piece of wood. I like my selfbows. Paul<><
I thought i would never get a recurve then i shot a black Widow PSAX and ordered one 5 minutes later.
Forgot about the Dalla, got to have one of those to. :bigsmyl:
To be totally honest, I shoot my Schafer Silvertip with more confidence and my groups prove that fact, but the Tembo sure makes me feel all warm and traditional inside. I'm going to keep practicing with the Tembo, because I want to use it to hunt these wild Cali. pigs.
Once I saw a man shooting a recurve. I fell in love with that image. I asked him what bow he had and he said it was a Bighorn. It was a 3pc and I was in awe. Then he handed it to me and said to take some shots. I shot it well, I think it was 50 pounds, and I was on cloud 9. Well, I just had to have one. I did, 10 years later. Ive had her 10 years now and I'm still in love with her!
Selfbows 95% of the time. I usually leave the house with 2 or 3 to bounce around with when I go shoot. In fact, I shoot different ones all the time, but try to keep focused on a select few as hunting season approaches. I also have a couple of classic styled longbows that I shoot on occassion as well. I've owned a few recurves, but couldn't seem to get into them and sold them off, not wanting dust collectors.
I switch between my long bow and recurve alot. But they both shoot the same arrows well so all i have to do, is get use to the feel of the one i'm using at the time.
Great stuff gentlemen! Keep it coming I have 32 submissions im shooting for 100! Thanks again to those of you that have shared your piece of the passion that is archery!
I shoot my Blacktail Elite VL T/D recurve and my own made Hybrid R/D bow. Both I like to shoot.
I raved about the genius of a longbow bowyer who came up with the idea of a recurve years ago and shot one exclusively for about 8 years. "Just because", I picked up a 64" Border GL longbow with a classic "D" shaped when strung, HH handle, but allowed myself a little "genius" with a slight R/D when unstrung and just fell in love with it to my great surprise! I have a sleeve style 2 piece that keeps the same lines of a one piece. I completely relate to those who speak of the "romance" as it were of a true longbow. Hybrids are great bows too but I think most people know they are as much recurves as longbows with their recurve risers and limbs very clearly curving back away from the archer. For me anyway, they just don't quite capture that same history/feeling. I can see a selfbow in my future! :) Oh, and also Border's new 3 piece hybrid when it comes out! Who said consistency was a human trait?! :biglaugh:
started with alongbow and just made the switch to recurve, not sure till now...
i semm to get along with both, so its recurve for me ( only till the budget allows an high quality LB...)
Longbows are my primary bow
I own about 15 recurves but when I go shoot, it's a longbow that's in my hand 99.9% of the time. Mostly, I bought all the recurves here and there for bows that my kids would grow into. Most range from 32 to 50 pounds pull. My longbow is 60# at 30" but pulled about 32" so maybe 65 or 66#.
I have at least one of each kind and right now the one I am shooting most (and best) is an Old Mahoning Hybrid T/D, 60" 50# @ 28. This thing is puts the arrows right where I'm looking better than anything I've shot in a long time.
