What kind of grip do you prefer on a Howard Hill Bow? Straight, Dished or Locator grip. Which one is more accurate for you?
Thanks,
Boomer
straight has that classic look, but locator is more functional for me.
I got the straight one on my first Hill, and it's okay. But the one that just arrived has the locator, and I prefer it.
Mine are all straight. I've been thinking about a locator and would love for someone to post a pic of their Hill with the locator.
Never mind.....I saw Ben's Wesley with a locator on another thread. Apparently, it's a mild locator that looks similar to a dished grip. I like it.
yes all of mine has a locator grip its great.
I go strictly with the straight grip. Once I got the hang of that grip I don't want anything else. My friend Dave Wallace builds the Wallace Mountain longbow (IBO world champion with it by the way) and he recently built himself one with a straight grip and says he shoots it better than his dished grip bow.
My Hill has the dished grip, which I love when I'm shooting it all the time, but if I hang it up (to shoot something else) for a length of time it seems like to takes a long time to get used to it again. I always wanted to try the locator on one.
I shoot mostly straight and dished, and have come to prefer the dished grip, but like others above I'd like to try a locator.
I preffer a larger, straight grip on my Hill bow.
Straight grips, which I prefer, and very mild dish grips. I actually don't shoot the locator grip as well as the others, but that's just me!

I like a mild dish grip on my HH,but have and shoot all three styles of grips.
My first was a locator and my second was a dish. I prefer the locator but have no problems with the dish. In case your unaware, Craig has two size grips, a large and a medium. Best give him your hand demensions when ordering or measure the grip on a HH bow that you like and provide the measurements for accuracy.
I prefer slightly dished, then straight. My lighest Hill has a locater and I shoot the poorest with it. You left out a type, foreward handle. I prefer it to all the others. Bill
I had a Hill styled straight grip until last Saturday morning. Reason it is now a custom grip is that after practicing with it all summer and fall bare handed the first deer hunt was a cold morning that demanded I glove my hands. I have average to small hands and this grip was 2"+ in depth. With the glove on it felt like a completely different stick in the hand. Needless to say I missed what I was shooting at. I made up my mind at 6:30 am this past Saturday that it would get an overhaul and thus it did. I like a small grip and now I have one, with curves, too. Yes, I like it better. I am not opposed to straight grips but they need to be faily small in diameter to suit me.
I am going to try to post a pictorial on the grip work before too long.

If it looks a bit dished, it's just because I'd just been shooting and squeezing the sap out of it.
Straight grip for me on my Hills style bows.....just seem to suit me better . having said that , i have not shot much else over the past ten years ....
straight or slightly dished! I tend to torque it with a locator
One more thing I just thought of, I just learned why the reverse handle bow is so useful and I tested it today. If you have to wear gloves or something that will mess with your bow hand, these bows are very difficult to torque, even with gloves! I got waaay too far into the grip today to test out the "theory" and found it to be very true. They don't torque. I found it also to be very much more accurate than the standard design as well, which I feel that I am very proficient as shooting. Give it a try sometime!
The differences in the Hill grips are fairly minor. Though my current bows have dished grips, I've shot straight and indexed griped Hills just as well.
Good looking Hill there Jedi.RC
Slightly dished with natural elk and chechen riser. May sound funny, but I seem to get the heel of my hand down on the slightly dished grip better than the locator or the straight. I have all three grips on my Hill bows.
Two Wesley Specials that have the dished; a Halfbreed that is straight and a Longbowman's Choice that is a locator.

Here is the other side of the slightly dished chechen riser.
