we had two different herds of 15-20 elk each above and below us.the elk were not wise to us being there as you can see by the grazing relaxed attitude

Is it time yet? ...........................
How 'bout now?......................................................AUGHGHGHHHHHH!!!!Now I really can't wait!!
:banghead: :banghead:
Man, looks like you guys had a blast!! Some really nice looking country there------and elk too!! :clapper:
Now what was Larry's signature I liked so much? Something like: "Lord if you'll only let me get this bull.............
you'll have your shots i can pretty much promise you that ben.
I definately had a blast.
Larry knows where the elk are.
I don't know if we should call him the Elkherder or Elk Whisperer.
We parked my little car and walked up a road about a mile.
After shooting a sage rat and a bunch of stumps, we started up a gentle slope and I took a step and like a brick wall, I smelled elk.
We sat there for a few minutes and Larry let out a call. A few minutes later, he saw a cow, but I missed her.
We went up the road a little farther maybe another 200 yards and I heard a mew, Larry started calling and we started hearing elk above and below us.
We got the wind right and sat up under a large tree in the shade. Larry did his sweet talk and the elk started coming.
A solo cow meandered within 60 or 70 yards and never knew we were even in town.
After the solo cow went by, we could hear elk down below us and very close.
Another herd had trompled within about 75 yards. There were a ton of cows, calves, and a spike bull.
It was a cool event to say the least.
I think it is awesome that Larry has put this elk hunt together.
Thanks again Larry.
Paul

hope thats enough...had a great time scouting and stump shootin
It is a beautyful land to hunt elk with our trad bows, thanks for sharing
Man, beautifull country-----only missing thorns!
I wish I had some stuff like that to hunt in here---all my hunting areas are all reclaimed strip mines--lots of briars and tangled messes in the woods and the "open" areas are thick autumn olive trees, which are just as bad!
I'm not gonna know how to act without having briars to force through and get tied up in!!
looks good, Larry! Thanks for the pics
its very east hunting country...no steep hills and clear
i can always set up some barbed wire tumblewires for ya ben...just so ya dont get to lonely and miss the thorns to much :D :bigsmyl: :D
Great pics, beautiful country.
Thanks for sharing
Magnificent countryside and animals! Thanks for sharing those! Good luck in the future there!
"i can always set up some barbed wire tumblewires for ya ben"----------------------LOL!!! :bigsmyl:
Thanks for the update and pics Larry. While it seems like a long time now, I know that we flatlanders will need all the time we have to prepare. These updates are certainly helping me in my prep. Can't wait!
Thanks for sharing.Great pics.
:jumper: :jumper:
this will be an awesome hunt and a great time. i have never been hunting here and not had the time of my life.
Hey Larry,
How do we know who's in on the hunt?
i have names written down....11 confirmed so far
Is there anyone signed up from the midwest yet? And what are the dates again?
Thanks, Jamie
That looks like some country I hunted in the silvies unit a few years back with my wheel bow.Elk took me to school on that trip.Tricky boogers that they are. Bill
got people from all over the place rob, even italy, last week of sept 2010.....huntindad....the area we are going is around delintment lake
Yup, camped about 5 miles from there hunted more towards Emigrant Creek though.Nice country heard some of it burned again.Lots of elk should be a great trip for you fellas.I'm thinking of hunting the Trout Creek unit for deer this year but my son shoots a compound so we will probably be spending time in other units also don't know if we'll be getting elk tags or not though. If we do though we might end up in the Silvies as that is one of the closest places to my deer hunting area with good elk numbers. Bill
going back to burns this weekend for some scouting and recon of the wallow thats top secret.i'll take pics and post when i get back monday afternoon.
HAVE A GOOD WEEK END SCOUTING FOR YOUR BUDDIES.Felix
The pics are making this handicapped bowhunter jealous. with one leg gone walking those ridges seem impossible. Maybe one day, who knows....
I don't pretend to know the limitations of your handicap but I have hunted this area and I know it is the mildest elk country I have ever seen. The possibility of you making a hunt like this may be closer than you think.I hope that someday you are able to make any hunt you want to. Bill
Bill, you have all my simpaty.Maybe we can find you a good wallow to hunt from.
ok'''''i'll share the wallow dag nab it...i'm in burns right now as a matter of fact...love these laptops man...i went scouting yesterday evening and this morning, was planning on more pics but some female member of my family made me forget the battery to my camera that was charging before we left :bigsmyl:
i went up yesterday full camo and did a full on call'em in close hunt.had elk very close and talking like a bunch of grannies at a bingo parlor.had at least five within twenty yds and even a rag horn came in to ten yds for a peek, never got busted once.playing the wind game is pretty challenging when you have no scent cover on.i took a long shot at a scroungy lookin yote that was tailin me for at least a mile.
went to the wallow and scraped it all up and dumped two bottles of urine in it to get it ready,i'll be dumping more before the season starts.had a great time even though i had no camera.this is going to be a great year i can feel it in my blood..............larry
What are Hunter Ed requirements and bow weight requirements for Oregon.
Dan
only hunter ed requirements are for youth...not sure of age but i think its 18 elk poundage is 50 deer is 40 i think but dont quote me on that one.you must have a bow thats marked 50 for elk or you can get a ticket.
