Gregg and I have been kicking around the idea of a longer longbow to add to the Shrew line of bows. I wanted a 66" bow with a long riser. I wanted a forward handle with the same form fitting grip that everyone likes in the shorter length Shrew bows.
Here's a prototype of the bow we're calling the Model-T. We had it at the Compton Rendezvous last weekend, some folks shot it and the feedback was very encouraging.
The pictures aren't the best but hopefully it will give you an idea of what I've described.

Wow! I'll bet that thing is smoother than butter! Very nice!
Oh my!
What a beauty :notworthy:
My 30"+ draw has been waiting on that. Man if these bowyers don't quit coming up with these sweet ideas i'm gonna be even more broke. :goldtooth:
Pretty cool. I was thinking maybe a Shrew-shree-piece bow instead.
Ron, As soon as you are ready to take orders for them I want in. That bow was sweet. Just a few rounds and I was dialed in and stacking arrows in a pop bottle from 20 yards.

Any reason why these particular characteristics were chosen for a new model? For instance, is the design meant to appeal more to target shooters? Just curious.

No particular reason except that I've never been one to be content to drop anchor and sit in one spot, I've always gotta see what's around the next bend of the river. Greggs the same way so for us this is another new challenge to be enthusiastic about.
As for this design being more appealing to target shooters, it may be but there's no reason it couldn't also appeal to hunters. :archer:
Kinda looks like an original 21st century, good design!
I'm a longer bow guy whether it's a recurve or a longbow. I like it a lot, looks like a great shooter to me.
Thanks, very nice. It would be interesting to know the performance specs of this new model compared to a normal SS of similar weight. Also, are those bamboo lams?
Thats a beauty,I like the design and I like longer bows.
Very nice.I like longer bows also. Will it be cut to center?
Is there any advantage to the extra curve in the limb instead of a more D or triangle profile?
Fine looking Ron!
Crap! I was right there and didn't see it someone must have had it at the range when I was there Because a 10" longer shrews.I will have to check it out somewhere in the future.
Very nice Ron!
:bigsmyl:  :clapper: :clapper:

HOLY SWEET!!!!!!!!
Love the looks on that one!!!!!
Are you planning on doing a 62 inch version? I'm a nut for bows in that 62-64 inch range. 66 would be mighty smooth though.
I second Arwin! Would love to see a couple different lengths available in the longer version, like a 64".
How is the performance compared to your shorter design? Any increases with the extra length?
Looks good!
Chris
Good move Ron. Some of us just prefer the longer bows. I hunt with a 66", Howard Hill and just picked up a 66" Massie "Longhorn" that shoots like a dream. I have others in the 62" to 64" range. I just prefer the feel of the 66" length.
I would say the performance was pretty close to the same as the shorter bows. This bow was mid 40's in weight so quite a bit less than I normally shoot. Gregg had some 500 carbons made up that I shot out of this bow and they zipped pretty good from this lighter weight bow. My dad shot the bow as well with some heavier wood arrows and it seemed to spit them out very well.
Hello there
Why a longer riser?
Why not the short riser with the longer limbs?
Wouldn't it ad more punch with the added sweetness.
Thanks
Fred
ya got base price???????????????????
Great lookin bow! How long is the rise?
Fredouille, Longer working limbs on a long bow, just add limb mass which does not recover as quickly. Longer bows generally shoot faster and softer in the hand with shorter working limbs. With the longer overall length, they don't stack either. Of course amount of deflex/reflex has an big impact.
TNstickin, Riser length is 24", and could be adjusted some for different overall length.
Marco, we have not decided on a base price yet. It will be more than the base Classic or Super Shrew. Lots more material and work in this design.
Thanks for all the kind comments,
Gregg
Great job Ron and Gregg ! Looks like a winner to me, seems like Ive noticed somewhat of a trend back to longer bows over the past year or so...way to stay on the cutting edge guys.
I peronsally think ya done good :) . I have been shooting 66" bows for the last 3 yrs. the callous on my ring finger is gone; my release has improved a lot; my groups are getting smaller :)
rusty
thats pretty cool! I like shrew bows, but not short bows, so this is my kind of bow!
I seam to be thinkin longer myself. Cant really say as to why, just somethin else to play with I guess! I love the design, it looks great.
I'd like to shoot this one. :saywhat: Lots of reflex deflex in those limbs.
Boy Howdy!!!!
I've always admired the Shrew bow line from a distance....
With about a 32" draw I was afraid to try them. Not to mention, I simply LIKE bows about 66" long. Guess I need to add ANOTHER thing to my wish list....
Awesome! You guys have done a TON with the Shrew line in the last few years....awesome!
I think there is officially "A Shrew For Every Shooter" now!
Finally you have come to your senses :p :biglaugh: ...Van
Imagine this one with a foam core and carbon limb. Can you say ORDER NOW.
QuoteImagine this one with a foam core and carbon limb
That's what the next prototype is going to be...left handed of coarse.. :archer:
Oh my........ This could earn a spot on my bow rack with my 56" Classic Hunter.....
You haven't commented yet to the inquiries of a long draw. Any insight yet as to what it might be able to take?
BobW
I can't wait to try one out at Kalamazoo.
Bob,
I pulled that one to 32" on my tillering tree, and it was still no more than 3#/in way out there.
Gregg
How would a long bow be for a 26in draw?
Since it is a Model T, I suppose it is only offered in black? Nice bow Ron.
Ron,
Any thoughts on building at 66" recurve?
Darn Ron I wish I knew you had it at Compton I sure would have gave it a test run... I love the looks of this new bow...
Very nice,
Cody
